JUNGKOOK POV

I took a moment to walk out
-side, soaking up the sunshine and basking in the light that
was not fluorescent like my office.

I felt like I'd been holed up in there for weeks even though
it had only been a few hours.

"How are things going?" Joon
had asked me in our morning meeting over the phone.

The alpha's omega had just
given birth to their son not
long before and he hadn't
fully returned to work.

In his absence, I was in
charge of all the things
including the possible merging with another pack on top of arranging and organizing the Omega Moon ceremony.

You know, just little things.

I had answered that every
thing was fine and it was.

But I was up to my eye
balls in work and worry.

Not only was the pack we
were merging with in debt
and unruly and unorganized
but something about the potential union was making
my wolf damned unruly.

And truth be told, not that I
was some kind of psychic but
in my gut, I knew that the omega ceremony would
prove fruitful for me.

Gods, let it not be someone
from the other pack.

I had enough to deal with
and in reality, we knew very
little about this bordering-
on-rogue pack.

My wolf wanted a mate like
it wanted its next breath, desperate and willing to do
just about anything for him.

"I have some new intel on the other pack." I heard and
cursed mentally even though Luther meant no harm.

He was usually a security
guard for the pack and ran rounds like he was born for
it but I needed him on
investigative detail lately.

And he had proven himself
over and over.

"Come in my office." I
answered, saying goodbye to
the sunshine and blinked at
the opposition from sunlight
to fake light.

He sat in the chair across
from my desk and pulled a
tiny, spiral-bound notebook
from his back pocket along
with a pencil.

He looked like a damned
reporter if one was built like
an MMA fighter.

"Whatcha got?" I asked,
getting out my own pen,
ready to take notes.

We needed all the information about this other pack we
could get.

While I agreed with Joon's decision to take them in, I
knew it would be an uphill
battle.

They were unkempt and
raw, almost rogue.

"Well, they aren't known for
their good reputation in town."

"Looks like they go into town
for groceries and services but have tabs in every place a
mile long."

Debt.

I knew that part already.

And as their new pack, we
would be absorbing said
debt and we knew that.

But debt meant they were
lazy and laziness wouldn't
be tolerated under Joon's leadership.

"What else?" I asked, trying
to focus on the task at hand while the Omega Moon
ceremony plans sat there,
on my desk, under my nose, calling to me like some omen that desperately demanded
my attention.

"There's a problem that
goes beyond numbers and figures, beta."

"The local police department does the best they can to
cover up some of the weird things that happen while
they're in town but they're having more and more
trouble doing so."

"There's been wolf sightings
and people saying that some
of the members have shown
their claws."

"No one is talking about it
right now but they clearly
need a lesson or two about blending in with the humans."

Now that sounded like a real issue.

The money we could take
care of.

Our pack was excellent at investing and we had more
than enough to cover debt
but showing yourselves to humans, well, that was something our pack didn't
need the burden of.

Not exposing yourselves to
the human population was
rule number one.

"Anything else?"

I put on the airs of being bothered by the gross abhorrence of rules even
though it pissed me off to
no end and had to be
addressed immediately.

I scribbled it down at the top
of my list for my call with
Joon in the morning.

In fact, I would request a
sit-down with him.

The issue was that serious.

We hadn't committed to any
thing more than considering a merge and using the Omega Moon as a way of testing the waters but this needed to be discussed and a plan in
place if we were to proceed.

"No, sir."

"But I will continue to get
intel if those are your orders?"

Luther was a damned fine and loyal member of the pack.

The others should use him
as their example.

"No, You've done well."

"Thank you for all you do
for your pack and I've
upgraded your pay to intel
for the next six months for
your time and energy."

That seemed to surprise him.

"Thank you, Jungkook."

"It's much appreciated."

"I'm looking forward to the Omega Moon ceremony."

"If there's anything I can
do, please let me know."

"Thank you."

He left and I blew out a
breath, the weight on my
chest getting even heavier.
