Yeonjun got back home and saw that their bedroom door was closed. He stared at it then walked over, he knew it was locked and when he raised his hand to knock he found himself hesitating. He rested his head on the door and then went to the guest room going to bed. When he woke up the next morning Beomgyu had already left making sure to wake up before he did so he didn't see him. Yeonjun called out of work, his head wasn't in the right place and his chest felt heavy.
He stayed in bed and slept for hours. Little did he know when Beomgyu got back home from work he went into his room, he walked over and rested his hand on his head making sure he didn't have a temperature. He sighed and quietly left, he didn't tell Yeonjun what he did and Yeonjun wouldn't know he was there.
Beomgyu loved Yeonjun like he had never loved anyone before yet he was scared of being hurt more and more by his husband so he stayed away.
He remembered how they were when they first started dating and how he didn't think it was possible to fall deeper in love with someone after they got married. He was on cloud 9 with him, he was happy but now he was worried that they rushed into things. That maybe they should've talked about marriage first, was getting married after three years too soon? Maybe they should've waited.
"Good morning beautiful."
Beomgyu giggled as Yeonjun pushed his hair to the side to kiss his neck. He hummed at his touch and tilted his head to the side.
"Good morning Junnie." Beomgyu bit his lip and tilted his head back, resting it on Yeonjun's shoulders. "You didn't get enough last night?" He teased.
"I could never get enough of you." Yeonjun said against his skin.
That's how it was almost ever morning. Their mornings were filled with kisses and laughter, their nights were filled with love and moans. They used to not be able to keep their hands off each other, Yeonjun used to bring his flowers, take him out, they used to have movie nights and play games. Some nights they just sat up and simply talked, happy with the room they filled with them.
They created a space called us and it was beautiful.
"Junnie hyung!" Beomgyu greeted Yeonjun at the door and pulled him into a tight embrace before kissing him. "How was your day?"
"It was okay but it's even better now that I'm with you." He kissed him again. "I love you so much."
A small blush spread across his cheek. "I love you too."
Beomgyu had made them dinner and they sat together to eat.
"I've been meaning to tell you that I was doing some job hunting."
"Really? I told you, you didn't have to work I can take care of us."
"I know but staying in the house all day gets boring and I want to contribute more than just a clean house and food. It feels weird doing nothing as your husband."
Yeonjun gave him a small smile. "I understand, so what is it you want to do?"
"I'm not sure yet but I'm excited about anything."
"Anyone will be lucky to have you."
"Thanks Junnie."
They stayed up drinking wine and laughing at the table, hand in hand and it felt good. This was all Beomgyu would ever want from him and it was more than enough. To feel a love like this one almost hurt and he loved every second of it.
Their love was serious yet they laughed like it was a comedy, because their love should be taken seriously by others but to them, their relationship was simple.
At least it used to be.
Beomgyu remembered it all.
He remembered the month Yeonjun stopped kissing him in the morning, work was getting busy and he was always in the rush.
He remembered the month Yeonjun stopped having dinner. He was working long shifts and needed to sleep.
He remembered when Yeonjun stopped taking him on dates, he was going out with coworkers more and wanted to make a good impression.
He could never tell them no but could always say it to Beomgyu.
It soon happened so much that it became their life. Uneventful, the passion that burned within their hearts slowly died in one and Beomgyu was left to burn alone. His flame growing weaker trying to burn bright enough for the both of them.
It wasn't enough anymore. Not for Beomgyu.
...
Beomgyu came home from work one day and Yeonjun was stepping out of their room buttoning his shirt up. Beomgyu didn't say anything to him as he toed off his shoes and went to walk past him.
"We need to talk."
Beomgyu stopped and didn't look at him.
"Then talk."
Yeonjun turned and looked at him. Beomgyu kept his back to him.
"I want you to know I'm still trying. Even if you can't see it or understand. I want us to be okay."
Beomgyu didn't say anything.
"Please look at me."
Beomgyu turned and looked at him. A chill ran down Yeonjun's spine.
There was no emotion behind his eyes. No anger, no tears, nothing. He was like an empty vessel on autopilot.
"Beomgyu-"
"I'm sure you're going to be late for your event with your company. You should go quickly, you shouldn't keep them waiting." He turned and went into their room, Yeonjun heard it lock and he stood there for several moments.
He knew he should've knocked on the door. He knew he should've apologized and said the three words Beomgyu had been waiting to heart and soon gave up on. He knew he should've been a husband and not a roommate, but he let his fear of hurting him more by speaking get the best of him.
Not knowing that Beomgyu hurt more when he let him go.
He left and was confused when he saw Taehyun standing at the end of his driveway leaning against his own car. He was waiting for him.
"What are you doing here?"
Taehyun stood up straight. "We should talk. Got a minute."
