They arrived at the restaurant and Yeonjun and his mother sat down together at a table.

"Are you here for work?" Yeonjun asked.

"I am. A few meetings here and there but I leave tomorrow morning so it's nothing long."

Silence.

It had been such a long time since they spoke that Yeonjun didn't really know what to say.

"Mom."

"Hm?"

"Tell me the truth." He said. "You didn't come here just to see me. Did something happen?"

She sighed and looked at him. "...your father and I would've been together for 22 years yesterday."

Their anniversary of their marriage. A marriage that was beautiful and ended horribly.

"I'm sorry mom."

"...how are you and Beomgyu?"

He nodded with a small smile. "Better. We hit a rough patch and he did...bring up divorce but we worked through it."

"Divorce? See, this is why you can't be clingy with someone. No matter how much they say they want you to open up, then they turn around and divorce you."

Yeonjun frowned. "But Beomgyu isn't like dad. He wants me to open up but-"

"No!" She said firmly. "Your father and I would still be together if I hadn't done that to him. All of that pressure, of course he lashed out and divorced me. He's probably out doing way better without us. Do you want to end up like me? Divorced and lonely with a kid who doesn't want anything to do with her?"

"Mom that's not true. I love you and you know that."

"But you don't call."

"You don't call either."

They fell silent again and Yeonjun sighed.

"Beomgyu and I better and we're better because of intimacy, aren't we? We've been spending a lot of time together and it feels like we're kids again. I'm really enjoying how things are now."

"You know I thought the same thing too." She shook her head in disappointment. "Beomgyu will eventually push you away. He's going to want his space and soon he'll be...having lunch with another handsome guy at a restaurant hugging and smiling about it."

"Wait what?"

She pointed behind him and Yeonjun turned and saw Beomgyu hugging Taehyun before they laughed about something and soon left together.

Yeonjun stood up but his mother grabbed his arm.

"Do you understand now? It doesn't matter what you do. There will always be someone else better. You will never be good enough for him." She let him go. "Sit."

Yeonjun hesitated but sat down. Then he had to sit and listen to his mother talk about her failed marriage with his father and telling Yeonjun what he should do about Beomgyu.

After their lunch he took his mom back to the hotel and went to work. Soobin noticed his change in mood and when he went to talk to him. Yeonjun saw him and simply shook his head before getting up from his desk and walking away.

Later that day Yeonjun came home and Beomgyu was making dinner.

"Hey hyung. How was work? Dinner is almost ready."

"It was good." He didn't kiss him or hug him like he had been doing these past few days.

Beomgyu noticed and looked at him. "Everything okay? How was lunch with your mom?"

"I...I saw you with Taehyun." He gave him a look. "So you are seeing him again after what he did?"

"Well I texted and called to tell you." He wiped his hands off. "He apologized to me and we talked and I forgave him."

"But why?"

"Taehyun was a good friend Yeonjun. Besides, I didn't see any point in resenting him. Me and you are good now and I'm happy." He went to hug him but Yeonjun shook his head.

"I need a minute." He stepped back and walked into the spare room closing the door.

Beomgyu frowned, his eyebrows furrowed. He turned off the stove and went to the door knocking.

"Yeonjun?" He tried to open the door but he locked it. "Did I upset you? I didn't think it would cause an issue. Can we talk?"

When he didn't answer, Beomgyu was unsure about where to go from here. They were doing good and he didn't think this would blow up into something major. Besides, Taehyun did something to him not Yeonjun. He was allowed to talk to him and forgive him if he wanted to, right?

He finished cooking dinner and called Yeonjun to eat but he didn't answer. He made him a plate incase he came out to eat but he never did and Beomgyu had dinner by himself at the table.

He glanced at his ring several times before heading to bed where he also slept alone that night.

The next day when he got up for work Yeonjun was already gone and Beomgyu took a deep breath before he went back to his room to get ready for work.

He felt himself slowly slipping away all over again to a place that would be further from Yeonjun's reach.
