My breath got caught in my throat as I struggled to face the reality before me. There stood someone with the exact same face as my own, same voice and posture. The rock in his hand rolled between his fingers for a moment before he tossed it over his shoulder and into the lake.

"W-Who are you?" I asked in fear. The mimic sighed before looking at me with those sad eyes, as if he were pitying me.

"Who I am isn't important. What is important is whether or not you've found the answer to the question plaguing your psyche for the past few days." His gaze turned to the setting sun off in the distance, and my own naturally followed after it.

I could see it sinking down further into the horizon, and the further it dropped, the colder I felt oddly enough.

"We don't have much time left, after all. Once night falls here...you'll be done for." He spoke as if this didn't concern him. There was no urgency in his voice at all as he went back to picking up stones.

"I-I'll be done for? What do you mean I'll be done for?" Regaining my composure, I asked him another question, which made his shoulders sag.

"Why don't you figure it out for yourself instead of asking someone else to do it for you?" Anytime I asked him a question, his interest in answering me seemed to diminish further. He showed no signs of wanting to answer them either.

My heart rate quickened further as I paced within the flowers. They seemed to have lost some of their vigor from earlier. Their heads bowed slightly instead of standing straight up.

"What the hell is going on? Have I finally lost it? Talking to myself is one thing, but physically talking to...something that looks exactly like me? That's a whole other level of-" I froze for a second.

Looks like me?

My eyes turned to look at the mimic as he stopped throwing rocks. Sensing my gaze he turned around to gaze back at me.

"(E/C) eyes...(H/C) hair...that's how I looked in my previous life..." Quickly, I walked over to the pond and fell to my knees before looking at my reflection in the water. What I was staring at wasn't the face of Issei Hyoudou anymore, but my own face.

My real face.

"Then...everything I just saw. That was my past life's memories..."

"Bingo." The mimic spoke casually before stretching his arms above his head.

"Looks like you can answer questions without the aid of someone else." With a sigh, he sat down on the ground across from me.

"So, with that out of the way, can you answer the other question you have?" I stared back confused. What other question did I have-

"What am I fighting for...and why do I desire more strength...?" The questions left my lips naturally. He nodded without saying a word, leaving me to ponder why this question was so important.

I couldn't remember why.

Suddenly, a sharp pang shot across my head, forcing me to hold my head once more. My teeth ground against each other until the wave of pain finally passed, and slowly, I opened my eyes.

The sky around me had grown darker, and the sun seemed to be further down into the horizon than it was a few seconds ago.

"Yikes. That sped up your death quite a bit."

"...Huh?" Death? I was gonna die?

Instead of answering me, the mimic simply pointed his finger over to the lake on my right. The once crystal clear blue surface was a dark shade of crimson. As if someone had spilled human blood into the water, it now took on that shade. But that wasn't all.
