Chapter 17: Dreams of the Future and the Past

"S-sasuke?" I looked up to see him standing in front of me with several needles protruding form his body.

Haku was on the ground before us, trembling. Naruto finally awoke.

"Jeez, all you two ever do is get in the way and show off," Sasuke said slowly.

"Sasuke! You..." Naruto trailed off as he realized the state he was in.

I had picked myself up off of Naruto's body and sat there to look at Sasuke's swaying body.

"What's with the face, Naruto?" he asked, turning his head.

"Sasuke!" I cried.

He was covered with blood, wounds and needles from head to toe.

"W-why?" Naruto asked dumbly.

"Pft. I hated you," he answered.

"But, but... why? Why me?" he shouted again, "I never asked for your help!"

"I don't know... my body just moved on its own... idiot" he said plainly.

He careened backwards and I caught him in my arms, ignoring the sharp ends of the needles poking into me, "Sasuke..." I whispered, a lump in my throat.

"That man, my brother... I told myself that I wouldn't die until I killed him... don't die also," he whispered and his eyes closed.

"He landed a blow on me without flinching... he died to protect you two. To protect a precious person, knowing it was a trap, he was still able to jump in. He is a shinobi that deserves respect," Haku said.

"Shut up! Just die! Special Technique: Phoenix Lament!" I formed the seals quickly and my sword became animated. A red silhouette of a phoenix surrounded it, it was pure chakra. I thrust my hand forward, sending the sword flying into Haku, I dug a deep hole in the side of his waist, I pinned him to the mirror behind him, cracking it but not yet breaking.

The sword returned to my side and I collapsed from the overuse of chakra. My jutsu was not yet complete, the damage that I had wished to be done wasn't possible at this stage.

"No! Elvira!" screamed Naruto, tears welling up in his eyes.

"Is this the first death of your friend?" Haku choked our between gasps of air, "This is the way of the shinobi," he said sadly.

He backed into the mirrors again, "Shut up! Didn't you hear, Elvira?" he yelled as he lay me carefully next to the cold and stiff body of Sasuke.

He hugged both of our bodies to him and the chakra that surrounded him was almost unbearable.

"N-naruto..." I whispered, "Y-you can do it. Finish him," I choked out.

"I'll kill you!" he roared at Haku.

Impossible amounts of chakra surrounded him and encased him in a swirling vortex of evil energy.

Could this be the Nine-tails?, I wondered.

Naruto charged Haku with the intent to kill. A pulse of chakra burst from Naruto as he chased after Haku's tired silhouette which was slowly becoming more solid. Finally I watched as Naruto's punch made contact with Haku's face, sending him through the glass. The ice pane shattered into a million pieces. The entire jutsu collapsed around us and I could watch as Naruto confronted Haku. Naruto charged him with another punch as his mask fell off which made Naruto hesitate.

"You're from that time..." Naruto stated.

"Why did you stop? I killed your friend and I almost killed your other friend too! And you can't kill me?" he said hysterically.
