Chapter 79: With My Last Breath

I looked down at Sasuke’s trembling body and my limp one.

Am I dead? Am a spirit now?, I felt tears sting my eyes, No! This isn't fair! I worked so hard for him to come and now I'm dead?! I just needed a little more time! Why does it have to end now?!

I drifted down to Sasuke’s side as he walked in the open doors of Konoha. Liz ran up to my meat body and snatched it away from a dazed Sasuke.

"Vira! NO! You can’t leave me! Why! Why?! All you stupid gods out there! Why won’t you open your eyes to this?!" Liz wailed, her face drenched with water from the heavens.

Naruto, Lee, Neji, Choji and Kiba were nowhere to be seen but it seemed as if the rest of the village were all congregated at the gates of Konoha as well as Temari, Kankuro and Gaara. Everyone's expressions were the same. They were all sad. Liz lay my body down across her lap and everyone burst into tears.

I don’t want to die, not now! Not yet! I had so much more I wanted to say! So much more I wanted to do!, I wept.

Sasuke stood off to the side, his eyes blank but pained. I wanted to go up to him and comfort him but something began to drag me away.

No! I don’t want to go to heaven or hell! I want to stay here, with Liz and Sasuke!, I fought against the strong pull.

Eventually, I was beginning to slip away. A familiar face entered my vision, holding me back from the black hole.

"Hey, long time no see," he smiled.

"A-allen," I looked him in the eyes.

My head spun, What is he doing here?

He seemed to be able to hold my spirit in place, not letting me get swept away by the force that wanted to take me somewhere I didn't want to go.

"Liz must be going through a lot right now," Allen sighed as he looked down at Liz.

She was in a crying rage.

"Why the hell did I trust you?! I should've stayed!" she screamed angrily, tearing at her drenched hair, "What the hell is wrong with this messed up world?!" she stormed over to Sasuke and punched him for the second time that day in the face.

Shikamaru, Sakura and Ino had to grab Liz and stop her from hitting Sasuke again. Sasuke didn't seem to mind though, he just stood there, his face blank.

Liz was trembling violently from anger, the cold and grief, "You have no idea how horrible I feel!" she yelled at Sasuke, "If you weren't my teammate, I'd kill you!" she struggled against Shikamaru, Sakura and Ino's combined grips.

Sasuke turned his agonized gaze to Liz, "Please... do it... kill me," he said and hung his head, waiting for Liz to send him in the afterlife.

Liz stopped struggling and fell to her knees, "No... I won't kill you... in fact, I'm going to protect you, I'm going to make sure that you die from old age," she looked up at a surprised Sasuke, "Do you know why?" she asked.

Sasuke stayed silent.

"Because... Vira, she gave her life to get you back to the village," tears continuously rolled down her face, "If I kill you now, that means Vira got herself killed for nothing. I'm going to protect you with my life if that's what it means! I won't let Vira's efforts go to waste!" she stood up and gripped Sasuke tightly by the front of his shirt, "You're life is worth two now. You're living for two people! Vira lives on if you do, so do your job and don't die because if you do, I'll kill myself, find you in hell and torture you for an eternity there!" she threw Sasuke away and broke down into tears again.
