Chapter 60.

Kim Jae-soo had been thinking about Ji Hu ever since the incident where Ji Hu got hurt protecting Na-ri and him. Jae-soo couldn't forget the desperation and fear in Ji Hu's eyes as he shielded them from the attack. Ji Hu's look expressed his willingness to be hurt himself rather than allowing any harm to come to them. That look was so familiar to Jae-soo, yet he couldn't quite place it.

Sitting on his bed, Jae-soo replayed the scene in his mind. Ji Hu's eyes had been wide with panic, his movements protective and almost instinctual. There was something deeply unsettling yet profoundly touching about it. The way Ji Hu had thrown himself in harm's way reminded Jae-soo of a past that he couldn't fully grasp, like a distant memory just out of reach.

'Ring!'

With a sigh, Jae-soo picked up his ringing phone without checking the caller ID. "Hello," he said softly, only to hear the voice of his least favorite person launching into another one-man show.

"Son? It's your father. How have you been? Since you're done with your exams, why don't you come visit?" Choi Min Jun spoke quickly, sensing that Jae-soo, like his mother, might cut him off coldly.

Min Jun had been thinking for a while and realized that the only way to make Ae Cha return to him was by taking Jae-soo away from her. A child without a father would crave paternal love and attention, even if it was just a little.

"Mr. Choi, I don't remember having a father," Jae-soo said harshly and hung up, rolling his eyes. He stood up from his bed, blocked the new number, and decided to focus on his plans for the day. He was going to meet Ji-su at the café and thought about inviting Na-ri to join them. Ji-su was free today and wanted to check on the café's progress, making it a perfect opportunity for a hangout.

Jae-soo sent a quick message to Na-ri, inviting him to the café. Within moments, Na-ri replied with an enthusiastic "I'm in!" Smiling at his friend's eagerness, Jae-soo grabbed his things and headed out the door.

As he walked to the café, his thoughts kept drifting back to the persistent feelings and memories of Ji Hu. The dreams and strange familiarity still gnawed at the edges of his mind, but he pushed them aside, focusing instead on the anticipation of a relaxing day with friends.

When Jae-soo arrived at the café, he was greeted by the familiar aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of Ji-su sitting at a corner table, engrossed in some papers. Ji-su looked up and smiled as Jae-soo approached.

"Finally decided to come out," Ji Su signed at Jae-soo, a teasing smile on his face. Jae-soo laughed a little, acknowledging the truth in Ji Su's observation. Since his exams had concluded, he had been hiding in his room, lost in thoughts about Ji Hu and how he could repay his kindness. Usually, when he thought of Ji Hu before, his wrist would itch, and his chest would tighten and hurt badly. But after the recent incident, he felt calm whenever he thought of Ji Hu. What did this mean? He didn't know, nor did he understand.

"Well, I'm out now, elder brother," Jae-soo signed back. "I invited Na-ri, who I believe will invite Man Sung-ho, so don't be surprised if you see an extra person," Jae-soo explained.

Ji Su shrugged his shoulders, showing it didn't matter to him. "The more, the merrier," he signed back, his expression light and welcoming.

Jae-soo smiled, feeling a sense of normalcy returning. As they waited, they chatted about mundane things—Ji Su's recent design assistant job at Sage, Jae-soo's thoughts on his internship, and their plans for the upcoming break. The conversation flowed easily, each topic a comforting distraction from the heavier thoughts that lingered in the background.
