Chapter 73.

Choi Su Jin's voice echoed through the grand living room, her face flushed with anger as she stomped her foot in frustration. "I want Ji Hu, not that pathetic second branch's son!" Her hands clenched into fists, her usually perfect composure shattered by the sheer force of her outburst. Her silk dress, elegant and tailored, seemed almost out of place against the petulant fury contorting her features.

Across the room, her mother, Lee Ari, stood by the large bay window, gazing out at the sprawling estate. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she tightly gripped the edge of the windowsill. The tension in her posture was palpable, her body rigid with barely contained frustration. The sunlight filtering in through the window cast a harsh glow on her features, accentuating the lines of stress and bitterness etched into her face.

Su Jin's voice rose again, louder this time, breaking the fragile silence. "Mom! Are you even listening to me?!" She stomped her heel down again, the sharp sound reverberating through the room like a gunshot.

Lee Ari finally snapped.

In an instant, she whirled around, her eyes flashing with fury. The calm, icy mask she usually wore slipped, replaced by raw frustration and anger. Her steps were purposeful, the sharp click of her heels echoing ominously as she strode toward her daughter.

"Enough!" she barked, her voice low and dangerous. "Shut it, Su Jin!"

Su Jin, taken aback by the intensity in her mother's voice, recoiled slightly, her defiant expression faltering. Her eyes widened as she watched Lee Ari advance, her mother's fury radiating off her in waves.

Lee Ari came to a stop inches from her daughter, towering over her as her voice dropped to a venomous whisper. "Now is not the time for you to throw childish tantrums like a spoiled baby, wailing because you can't get what you want." She raised her hand sharply, causing Su Jin to flinch involuntarily, but instead of striking, Lee Ari pointed a manicured finger directly at her daughter's face, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

"You think whining and crying will get you anywhere? You think Ji Hu will just fall into your lap if you scream loud enough? Pathetic. You have no idea what's at stake here. We are fighting for control, for power. And you—" she jabbed her finger toward Su Jin's chest "—you're too busy acting like a spoiled child to see the bigger picture."

Su Jin blinked rapidly, trying to gather herself, but her mother's words had landed like blows, each one sinking deep into her pride. She swallowed, her throat tight, but the tears she so desperately wanted to shed stayed stuck behind her eyes.

"I want Ji Hu," Su Jin whispered, her voice cracking slightly, her earlier bravado all but gone.

"And I want my position back, and everything that belongs to me," Lee Ari snapped, her voice icy and cutting. "But do you see me throwing myself on the floor like some tantrum-throwing fool? No, Su Jin. If you want Ji Hu, you better start acting like you deserve him. We will take back what is ours, but only if you stop acting like a baby and start playing the game like an adult."

There was a heavy pause, the air thick with tension. Lee Ari's chest heaved with restrained rage, and Su Jin, now silent, could only nod, her once-vibrant defiance dulled into reluctant obedience.

"Good," Lee Ari said curtly, stepping back and smoothing down the front of her dress, her mask of composure slowly sliding back into place. "Now pull yourself together. We have work to do."

Su Jin, still trembling slightly, nodded once more.

After Lee Ari left her daughter at home, she went straight to her parents. On her way, she fell deep in thought.
