Chapter 71.
Kim Jae-soo's body thrashed violently against the unyielding grip of the four men holding him down, their hands like iron shackles on his frail limbs. His breath came in ragged, desperate gasps, his chest heaving as he struggled against the overpowering force that pinned him to the cold, unforgiving floor. His heart pounded wildly in his chest, the sound of his pulse deafening in his ears as pure terror coursed through his veins.
His wide, tear-filled eyes darted around the room, searching frantically for any escape, any glimmer of hope, but there was none. The walls seemed to close in on him, their dark shadows stretching like the claws of a beast, eager to swallow him whole. The air was thick with the stench of fear and sweat, suffocating him, making it impossible to think, to breathe.
"Please, don't hurt me!" he cried out, his voice cracking with a childlike desperation that echoed off the walls, falling on deaf ears. His pleas were met with cold, unfeeling stares, the men's expressions hardened into masks of indifference. They held him down with brutal efficiency, their grip tightening with every frantic attempt he made to break free.
Standing above him, Lee Ari loomed like a malevolent specter, her face twisted into a grotesque parody of a smile. Her voice, shrill and grating, cut through the air like nails on a chalkboard. "Hold him down," she commanded, her tone laced with a sickening satisfaction. There was no pity in her eyes, no flicker of hesitation. This was her twisted idea of control, of power, and she relished every second of it.
Kim Jae-soo's heart nearly stopped when he saw the syringe in her hand, its needle glinting ominously under the dim light. The sight of it made his blood run cold, his stomach churning with a visceral, gut-wrenching dread. He knew what was coming—the pain, the confusion, the darkness that always followed. The drug they injected him with made his body feel like it was being torn apart from the inside, every nerve ending set on fire before the merciful oblivion claimed him.
"No, please! Please don't!" he sobbed, tears streaming down his face as he twisted his head away, his voice breaking into a pitiful whimper. His mind was a whirlwind of terror and helplessness, spinning out of control as the needle inched closer to his skin. He could feel the cool air against his exposed arm, the prickling anticipation of the pain that was about to pierce through him.
Su Jin stood beside her mother, her laughter high-pitched and cruel, a sharp contrast to the horror unfolding before her. There was a perverse glee in her eyes as she watched him suffer, her lips curled into a smirk that only deepened as she leaned in closer, her presence adding another layer of suffocating dread. "He's so pathetic, isn't he, Mom?" she taunted, her voice dripping with mockery.
Lee Ari nodded, her grip on the syringe firm and unyielding as she lowered it towards his arm. The tip of the needle brushed against his skin, sending a jolt of fear through his entire body. His sobs turned into panicked gasps, his vision blurring as he fought with every ounce of strength he had left, but it was useless. The men holding him down were too strong, their grip too tight, and the needle was too close.
"Please! Please, no!" His cries grew weaker, his voice barely a whisper now as the cold metal finally broke through his skin, the sharp sting of the needle burying itself deep into his flesh. He could feel the liquid fire burning its way through his veins, spreading like poison, overwhelming his senses. The pain was unbearable, a searing agony that twisted his insides, making him convulse against the floor.
The last thing he heard before the darkness claimed him was Su Jin's laughter, echoing in his ears like the cruel cackling of a witch, and the final words of Lee Ari, her voice cold and detached, "Sleep tight, you worthless little brat."
