[Ren: HAPPY NEW YEARS‼️😋 As you can see, I finally got the motivation to write because I LITERALLY WATCHED SONIC 3 IT WAS SO GOOD‼️ I'll be doing a lot of Shadow fluff because he was so soft and sad in the movie and also Rewrite because I'm obsessed with him.]

Faded Stars || Movie! Shadow

Shadow frowned, droplets of rain trickling between his quills and soaking his gloves. His ears twitched under the damp chill, his hands covering his ears in a futile attempt to shield himself.

Rain was strange.

Feeling it on his skin, hearing its soft patter—it was an experience he had rarely encountered. Earth itself was still foreign, its elements unfamiliar after years of sterile confinement in the lab.

The steady downpour suddenly faded into the background, calming down. He lowered his hands, narrowing his crimson eyes at the faint sound of footsteps. The purple curve of your umbrella came into view, casting a small shield between him and the rain.

"Hi," you greeted awkwardly, offering a small smile. The warmth of your presence reached him before the words did.

Shadow tensed. You were always there, always following him. You weren't unpleasant—far from it, actually—but your presence was an irritating reminder of the chains that still bound him. Sent to monitor him, to keep him out of trouble, like he was being watched by the Doctor constantly.

You were nicer and more open than the calculating genius and his assistant. But it didn't make the leash feel any looser.

Your fingers loosely wrapped onto the rim of your bags, crinkling the plastic. His ear twitched at the noise.

Still, he said nothing. His gaze returned to the puddle at his feet, watching his reflection ripple and distort.

You hesitated, shifting the umbrella so it covered you both more evenly. "You shouldn't be out here in the rain," you said gently. You awkwardly raised the plastic bag. "I got some things for you earlier. I didn't know what you liked, so..."

Your voice trailed off as you rummaged into the bag, holding out a pink-frosted cookie.

Shadow's ears twitched again. Before you could even finish your sentence, the cookie was gone, snatched from your hand and disappearing into his mouth with an efficiency that surprised you.

You blinked in surprise at how fast he downed the cookie. "Guess you're hungrier than I thought."

He grunted, the faintest flicker of gratitude in his gaze.

A moment of silence passed before you spoke again. "Why don't you come back to my place? You look... tired."

Shadow froze. He didn't want pity, especially not from a human. But the exhaustion clawing at his muscles, the ache in his mind—it was undeniable. Against his better judgment, he nodded.

Your apartment was small but cozy, a stark contrast to the chaos of Eggman's headquarters. You handed him a towel and a change of clothes—a hoodie and sweatpants that you didn't fit in any more but fit him snugly.

While he dried off his quills in the restroom, you set up the living room, dimming the lights and queuing up a movie on the TV. Shadow emerged from the bathroom, looking strangely domestic in your borrowed clothes. The sight made you smile to yourself as you brought food over to the living room table.
