Chapter 7. Dark Desires

I didn't tell anyone about my dreams. It's been a couple days, and all that has happened in them since was me being left alone on the same dirt road. I imagine Fleetway will show up again soon though.

Shadow keeps making me shoot a dumb gun and I want to pull his ear hair everytime. But I just go along with it, because I don't want to seem weak to him.

"We are planning to leave for your city next week. That means two things need to happen. You need to control your buddy up in your head. And we need to go without weapons so they don't think we are ambushing them." Rouge said as we stood around the dining room.

"Our last resort is Shadow's chaos powers. But even so, he shouldn't bring them out. Right, Shadow?" Rouge looks at Shadow and he nods but I can tell he's not so happy about it.

"Sonic, you seriously have to have Fleetway controlled or GUN might catch you, and make you a test puppy for your whole life."

"I understand." I said with a lot of power in my voice. I keep trying to act tough but I'm freaking out inside. This is our one chance to get trust, and I hate that. But we have to try.

I want to be with my friends again. But Rouge and Shadow. I can't leave them if I'm accepted. They need to be accepted too.

"Let's all stay together when we leave, okay?" I said to them and they looked at me funny, but nodded slowly.

Two days later

"What do you think is going to happen?" I asked Shadow when it was just the two of us in the shed. Rouge kept nagging us to wash it out. Women.

"I think we all know what's going to happen." I turned to look at him and he was scrubbing the walls with all his might. I looked at my sponge, and squeezed it so hard that all the soap and water dripped out.

"I hope Tails and them understand."

"They probably won't. It's a try though." He said to me and I just stared at the ground.

"Sonic! What kind of work is that?!" I jumped and kicked the soap bucket and it almost fell over. I heard Rouge laughing.

"Rouge! Don't scare me half to death!" I said back to her and she wasn't making any noise because she was laughing so hard.

Shadow and I were running side by side while Rouge was flying over head of us. No one spoke, and the silence was nerve wracking, for me. The last five days of the week passed so fast. And here we are. It's been about two hours since we've been running. There have been short breaks though.

We've had to turn around about three times because we ended up no where near a city.

I saw lights this time though. And I could feel my pulse. And my heart was pounding so hard I knew I had to stop. I threw my hand up in the air, which meant I needed a break.

Everyone slowed down to halt.

"Sorry." I said to them while holding my chest. "I just need to calm down before I do something I'll regret."

"Don't worry. I think all of us needed to stop as well." Rouge smiled a sad smile. I feel so selfish because all this time I forgot that Rouge and Shadow are going through something too.

"I'm really sorry. I shouldn't have brought you guys with me. I'm pressuring you into something you probably don't want to happen." I said to them and rubbed my arm.

"We need this too. I think it's been long enough. I'm tired of only having Shadow to talk to, as well." Rouge laughed a little but no one else laughed with her.

I looked at Shadow and he was staring in the direction of the city. I hope he's okay with this too.

"I think we should wait until later in the day until sunset. There will be less attention." Shadow said, and Rouge grabbed his arm. She also grabbed mine, and pulled both of us into a hug. We were all hugging and I felt how tense Shadow was.

"We are all strong. And we can do this." Rouge said and I wanted to scream out that I wasn't strong. Only they are. They've been through so much that only they understand what it feels like.

I felt someone's eyes on me, and I knew they were Shadow's since I could see what Rouge was looking at.

I wanted to crawl under a rock while feeling his stare. I could also feel the inside of my ears and my muzzle turning red. Why am I getting so worked up about Shadow staring at me? Shadow interrupted my thoughts when he spoke.

"You guys get some sleep. I'll wake you up when we need to head into the city." Shadow said while getting out of the hug circle. The side he was on got suddenly cold when he left.

Rouge and I walked over to the trees and she slept on one while I slept on the one across from her. The ground was cold, and a little damp. But at least I get sleep.

"You are pathetic." I heard one and only Fleetway's voice. I sat in the middle of the road that started it all.

"How weak can you be? It makes me laugh so hard." He said and I only stared at the ground.

"Why do you keep coming back?!" I yelled at him and he only laughed. His cackle was like nails on a chalkboard.

"You don't understand what this place is. I'm always here. On the same road. Your mind makes the decision if you want me to be able to talk." He said and I felt tears sliding down my cheeks.

"I don't want to be here..." I said and Fleetway laughed again, walking closer to me.

"Then why don't you run away?" Fleetway grabs my chin and turns it so I'm looking down the road. I try to get away from his grasp but he only digs his nails in my skin, until finally he lets go harshly.

"That says it all, Sonic. You want me with you."

"No!"

"Face it! You are so weak, and so pathetic that you can only sit on a road in all your dreams." He says and my eyes widen. But I can't tell myself to stand up.

"Would you like me to help you?" He put his hand out in front of me, and I reached for it. I wanted it. I wanted it.

I wanted it.

"Sonic. We need to go before it gets too dark." I felt a hand on my shoulder and I opened my eyes. It was Shadow in front of me.

He held out his hand to help me stand up.

And I couldn't grab it.
