"So I thought I'll tell you the way we run this pack. I'm sure you read about those werewolf romance novels that Alice confessed of reading," Harrison said as we entered what I believed to be his office.
"Yeah," I said plainly.
He stacked all his files on his desk. As I looked around, I could see that he was a neat freak. There were cabinets along every wall.
'So much information?' I thought to myself, 'but then again. The whole pack is full of criminals with death wishes lingering on their heads'. I'll never attempt it to Harrison but his pack interested me and brought forth my nerdish side.
"Ok then. Take seat as I tell you some stuff then Steven will explain in more detail while you train with your personal trainer," a smirk slide on his face. 'What's so funny?' I thought suspiciously.
I sat in the chair directly in front of his desk as he sat down. "Alright," I quietly put my face in my hand.
My face remained expressionless which hid my amusement to see his face uncomfortably change as he faked a cough.
"Well, it's true that most of our pack members are wanted ex-convicts, condemned serial killers or thieves and rogues. But we assure the safety of our regular members by," his voice softened as he looked away. His eyes lowered to his desk as his whole posture changed. He slouched back and had a dark grim in his eyes.
"When we have a criminal use their second chance we allow our serial killers to have a fun game of Prey with the idiots. Unlike those who only see black and white, criminals live in the grey so they know exactly how to control their urges and for those who can't," his finger went under his chin as he made a wretched grinding noise with his mouth.
My face immediately softened as the curiosity grew within me.
"Your form of entertainment, Beta?" my head moved to the side.
Harrison laughed. "Is that the reason why the other packs hate you?" I asked.
"No!" he laughed insanely, "Imagine that!". My body tensed up as he started to creep me out. 'His going to lose control of his breathing and choke if he continues'.
His breathing was heavy as he tries to stop but starts coughing and I scoffed at him when I knew he was not going to die at that moment .
"They hate us for letting them live as long as they do. Also for the fact, we don't follow the werewolf traditions of treating our members like shit," he coughed as he gain his composure and smirked.
"What do you mean?", I leaned back as I relaxed he was back to normal.
"Well" he moved his hand in a circular motion as he thought. "Usually Alphas and Betas act like Gods in their pack pretty much making them the law. They treat everyone else like trash and act superior over everyone else" he made a disgusted face as he stared at the desk.
I sat in silence. 'So, like the novels. Dominant characters with a large ego, yet Steven also acts that way,' I thought.
"No one else can be right. The Alpha and Beta has to always be correct in everything even when they are complete fools. If anyone even suggests something against the Alpha, they banish them and disgrace them into rogues", his demeanor became stiff as he was compressing his emotions.
'Obviously, it's why Harrison is here', I watched him closely. I hid my urge to ask for more.
He suddenly exhaled and his face was pale. Maybe, he thought I would get scared and run?
He cleared his voice as my eyes land on him.
"The idea of the second chance for Criminals came from the Howlers, you know? But unlike them, our criminals aren't so willing to change", he exhaled more.
