Madelyn went back home to spend the summer with her family.

It was hard for her to leave Mystic Falls and her friends. And she missed them terribly.

Madelyn missed Damon too, but she thought that she made the right decision by leaving. He had been calling her for months after she left, but eventually, he gave up.

Caroline called her every week and Bonnie emailed her multiple times over the summer, but she never heard anything from Stefan.
She had tried calling him many times, but she couldn't get a hold of him.

The summer was almost over and Madelyn would soon be moving to Pennsylvania.
She couldn't understand why Stefan wasn't calling back and she was determined to see him, before she left for college, leaving Mystic Falls behind forever.

Much against her best intentions, she decided to call Damon and see if he had heard anything from Stefan after he too left Mystic falls.

"Hello?" His familiar voice said on the other end, making her heart ache.

"Hi, Damon. It's me." She said softly gulping nervously.

"Hi." Damon responded softly and maybe even a bit surprised.

"I just wanted to know, if you heard anything from Stefan?" She asked insecurely.

"No. Why?" Damon answered.

"I can't get a hold of him. And it's just not like him." Madelyn said frustrated with a sigh.

"I'll try and call him." Damon said almost sighing, knowing that Madelyn wouldn't give up.

"How is everything going?" Damon asked just as she was about to hang up.

"Good, good." Madelyn lied fidgeting nervously with her hair.

"I'm almost on my way to Pennsylvania." She continued, looking at her clothes scattered between the suitcases on the floor.

"How's Mystic Falls?" She quickly asked.

"Empty." Damon answered in his usual tone, but with a slight hint of something Madelyn couldn't really place.

"I can believe that. Call me if you get a hold of Stefan." Madelyn said before hanging up, before she plumped herself onto the bed, sighing. Hearing his voice made all the feelings well up again. She hated that she missed him so much.

Madelyn was on her way to Pennsylvania when she decided to call Damon again to hear if he had heard anything from Stefan.

"Hey Damon. It's me. Have you heard from Stefan?" She asked as he picked up.

"Yeah. Sort of." Damon said hesitantly.

"Damon, what is going on?" She asked worriedly.

"Silas is back. He did something to Stefan." Damon explained.

"What did he do?" Madelyn asked feeling the panic

"I don't know, Maddie. I really have to go." Damon said before hanging up, leaving her even more confused.
