Chapter 27

"She's suffering from 5 cracked ribs, a minor infection on her arm where her arm was slashed and concussion. She also has a broken wrist and a sprained ankle as well as suffering slight malnutrition." The nurse listed as Harry listened carefully, cradling Nate in his good arm while his worry grew as he glanced to Anna's sleeping body, 'Just what did they do to you?'
"It's a miracle she's still breathing considering her body was still weak from her recent birthing. She's one hell of a woman." The nurse smiled at Anna, nodding to Harry before leaving them alone. He sat in the chair beside her bed and sat Nate on his lap, facing his mommy, "I told you I'd bring her back."
"I never doubted you." Anna's voice croaked as she turned her head to smile at them. Harry's heart leapt in his chest as he smiled back reaching for her good hand and squeezing it, "Hi." He murmured.
Anna grinned weakly, "Hey." She then smiled down at Nate who reached out his tiny hands and gurgled, causing Anna to giggle, "Hi baby boy." She cooed softly, stroking his soft cheek with her fingertips. Harry smiled wider, "Want to hold him? Someone's missed their mommy a lot you know."
Anna nodded, tears welling in her brown eyes as Harry placed Nate in Anna's good arm, watching her cradle him close to her with dear life. Anna sighed in relief, all the tension leaving her. She could hold him again, her baby boy. She looked down at the small boy staring back at her, a small smile twitching his lips, causing more tears to form in her eyes, 'My precious baby boy...'
Harry scooted his chair closer to her bed, leaning on his elbows and kissing the back of Nate's head softly, "This is the calmest he's been for ages." He laughed. Anna sniffled with a beaming smile on her face, "He's smiling. Our boy is smiling." She laughed soflty as Harry grinned down at Nate, witnessing his first smile. Anna tried to blink away her tears, "I missed you. Both of you."
Harry rose form his seat and kissed Anna softly, "We missed you more." He murmured, keeping his lips to hers. Anna smiled, laughing softly and rubbing her forehead against his, "I love you."
"I love you too. More than anything." He whispered, his voice shaking with the threat of new tears. Anna opened her eyes and fused their gazes brown to blue, "Don't cry. I can't wipe your tears away if you do." She joked gesturing to her useless arm and Nate in her other. Harry chuckled sadly and sighed, "I'm sorry I didn't get there sooner. You wouldn't have so much damage done to you if I had come sooner."
"You were shot and had no idea where I was. You probably found me just in time, I felt like I was going to die in there." Her voice shrinking, she then looked back up into his eyes, "But I'm here now. It's all over and we can be a family. That's all that matters to me now."
Harry smiled and wrapped his arm around her gently as to not cause her pain, "I'll never leave your side again. I swear." He whispered into her matted hair. Anna closed her eyes and leaned into his warm touch, "So do I." She whispered in return.

Later that night, Harry sat happily beside Anna's bed as she downed her 5th serving on Chinese food and still going strong. He grinned and Anna glanced up from her chicken noodles and raised an eyebrow, "What?" She asked with a full mouth. Harry chuckled and tucked her messy hair behind her ear, "I'm just glad to see you eating."
Anna smirked, swallowing her food and stuffed a dumpling in his mouth with her chopsticks, "It's rude to stare Mr Colburn."
Harry smirked back and leaning closer, widening his eyes more and continued staring at her. Anna laughed, placing a hand over her rib cage, "Stop making me laugh so much! It hurts you know." She giggled.
Harry smiled guiltily, "Sorry. I just really missed your laugh. Does it hurt much? I could ask the nurse for more painkillers." He was about to stand when Anna grabbed his hand, "I'm fine baby. Besides, I've had my dose of pills for the day now. I can't have anymore. Plus, I just really wanna eat."
Harry nodded and sat back down in his seat while Anna continued to stuff her face, not caring what she looked like. Harry smiled wider again, even with dirt matted hair, blood stains, bandages and her fast pace eating, she still looked like an angel to him, 'Jeez Colburn, you're so whipped.' He thought happily. Anna paused for a moment. And dabbed her lips with a napkin before facing him, "Are you sure Noah will be ok with Nate for the night?"
"Of course. He loves Nate like his own. If there's any problems he'll call. Noah said he was gonna bring him around tomorrow morning for you." Harry reassured her. Anna smiled and nodded before taking a swig of water then looking back at him then to his own empty take out boxes, "Are you sure you don't want seconds? I feel bad that I'm stuffing my face with everything."
Harry rolled his eyes and kissed her forehead, "I told you, I'm full, and you can eat as much as you want. You'll get those 3 pounds back in no time."
Anna winced, "I still can't believe it was that much I lost. I'm probably down 4 dress sizes." She then looked back at her food and narrowed her eyes with determination, "But there is no way I'm getting rid of my favourite jeans!" And with that she picked up her chopsticks again and went back to feasting. (You go gurl!) Harry chuckled and sat back, pulling out his phone and bringing up his e-mail to check on things at work and set some stories straight for the press.
Within 5 minutes, Anna placed her empty box beside the pile of others and stretched stiffly, "Ugh I feel disgusting." She then threw the blankets off of her and swung her legs over the side of the bed. Harry's eyes widened and he raced to her side to stop her, "Whoa whoa whoa! No way, you're not getting out of bed yet Missy! You're still probably too weak to stand by yourself yet."
Anna rolled her eyes at him and pouted, her cheeks flushing pink, "I need the bathroom." She mumbled. Harry strained his ears to hear her, "Huh?"
"I need to pee Dummy." Anna said louder.
Harry blushed the same shade as Anna and cleared his throat awkwardly, "Oh..." He then held his hand out, "Alright fine, I'll walk to the bathroom."
Anna sighed but took his hand anyway, "It's two feet away from me. You know you put me in one of the luxury rooms in this place right?"
"I know. But just incase." Harry insisted, letting her lean on him as she took slow and steady steps towards the open white door. She grabbed the door handle and smiled at him over her shoulder, "I can take it from here. I don't want you watching me pee."
Harry held his hands up and sighed, "I know, but call me if you do need help alright?"
"Promise." Anna laughed, closing the door. Harry lent against the wall beside the door, waiting for any sign of distress from her. But the room was silent. He couldn't even hear her footsteps. Just as he began to worry, he heard the sound of the shower starting and he glared at the door, "That sly little fox." He muttered, opening the door and frowning at the fogged glass shower cubical, "You didn't need to pee did you." 
Anna's giggle filled his ears like he was drowning in the most delightful sound in earth, "Love you!" She called over the sound of the water. Harry chuckled, "Back at ya." Before closing the door and staying near by with a fresh hospital gown waiting for her.
