You didn't know what to do. Chaos was happening all around you and you were just getting in the way. No one wanted your help because you just couldn't. You didn't have any supernatural powers, you weren't smart enough and you weren't in danger. There was nothing keeping you attached to this group because you weren't doing anything except being a nuisance.

You were the hassle. Because you didn't know how to help and you were always asking questions, you were the hassle. No one needed you, not like you needed them.

Instead of going to find Lydia, you went to class early. You decided it was better to leave her alone then to follow her shadow. You couldn't go to Kira either because she's still getting used to being a fox or something and really does not need you to be asking questions. Scott always seemed distracted, dazed in another world and and Stiles... Well, Stiles understood that you were only human because so was he, the only difference was that he knew what was going on, he was useful.

Even your parents were more useful than you in this whole situation. They always suspected something was weird in Beacon Hills so they had no trouble believing in the supernatural. Your dad was an officer and he had even gone to school with Sheriff Stilinski and your mum was a teacher at Beacon Hills.

Everyone except you was useful.

"Alright class!" You closed a book you had been pretending to read because you had been so consumed in your thoughts. "Hello, (Y/N)." The teacher greeted as she noticed you had already been seated. You barely waved and smile in return.

"I didn't see you at Lunch," Malia sits at the table beside you as usual.

"I was thinking," you reply. Anything you said wouldn't matter because she can sense anything, although she still can't put a name to some things.

The class files in around you, taking their seats and soon the lesson begins. You take note of content she's teaching, but everything goes straight over your head. You can't focus, sitting surrounded by Lydia, Malia and Scott, just nothing is happening. You see their faces or hear their voices and waves of insecurity wash over you. You feel uneasy sitting in the plastic seats and focus hard of steadying your breathing.

"(Y/N), are you alright?" You hear Lydia's voice.

"May I be excused?" Your arm shoots straight up in the air. The teacher nods and you scramble out of the class, leaving a few notebooks behind. You keep a steady pace and you head for the bathroom. You reach the doors, but there is something pulling you to grab the men's instead. You hear noises, struggles and you don't think twice before heading in.

"Stiles!" You gasp, dropping your bag to the floor and joining him by his side. He's heaving and his chest is rising too quick for you judge.

"I'm," he spits out. The next words come out between hard breaths in syllables as he says "having a panic attack."

"What-what can I do?" You're beginning to panic seeing him in this state. He doesn't answer. You release your grip from around his shoulders and try splashing some water on him. It doesn't work.

You can't think of anything else to try so you grab his head between your hands and focus his head mere inches away from yours.

"Stiles focus on me," you're both compelled by each other's eyes as he draws deep breaths. In the moment, you don't think about it before you do it, but you kiss him.

For every moment your lips are pressed against his you notice his breathing relaxes. You release later than you would for a first kiss and resume looking deeply into each other's eyes.

"Stiles?" You're cautious to ask anything. He wraps his arms around you and pulls you in close to hug you. He feels so comforted in your arms and you in his.

"C'mon," you tap his back and bring him up to sit on a bench, removing him from off the floor.

"Thanks, (Y/N)." He caught his breath, his hands clutching the edge of the bench. You stand awkwardly with your arms crossed over your chest. "How did you know to do that?" He said obviously referring to the kiss.

"Well I didn't really, it was a guess." You rushed the last words. "I did read something about holding your breath and I guess I just hoped you would if I did that." You didn't know where to look and your eyes roamed the room.

"What would I do without you?" He asked rhetorically. You slumped beside him on the beach, thinking about how much better they all were without you. "What is it? Did I say something wrong?"

"You guys are better off without me," you tried adding some light to your tone, but you truly meant every word.

"Why would you think that?" There was concern in his voice. "You just saved me, (Y/N). I know I'm not an alpha, but surely thats worth something?"

"Anyone could have helped you," you continued to dig yourself deeper and deeper into a pit of despair.

"Maybe, but it was you. (Y/N), we wouldn't be anywhere without you."

"But I'm always annoying everyone because I just keep asking questions because I don't know anything."

"That's not your fault. You deserve to know everything and I promise I will catch you up." He laughs a bit looking down at your unimpressed expression. "You don't annoy me. Besides, you always take care of Lydia and you trust her which means everything to her. You helped Malia when she was learning to be human and you tutor her when your not busy filling in for Scott at the animal shelter or stalling for me at the police station. You always make everyone fit in, which is important for Kira because she moved around a lot and she's really happy to have an extraordinary, ordinary friend. You might just be human, but theres nothing wrong with that. You're too busy making sure everyone around you is doing their best to realise they can only do it because of you."

The words fall out of his mouth softly and sweetly. You are like putty to his every compliment and he really helps you to understand the place you have. No, you are not supernatural, but you are not useless.

"Thanks, Stiles. I really needed that." You smile. He gestures for you to lay your head on his shoulder and the two of you remain still for what feels like a beautiful eternity.
