Chapter 20. Scented

[A/N: A little bit of Aden in this chapter, to see how he's doing.]

 

The next day I showed up at the same time as Elin. We both parked and locked up.

"Hello Max," She smiled, "Heard you were the reason I've been out hunting for pine oil all morning." I looked at her, startled, and she laughed. She dug into a bag and held up a tiny bottle for my inspection. 

"Alpha wanted to try it out and I've been hunting the stuff ever since. Can you believe this little thing cost ten bucks? And I needed enough to cover a whole person! I spent a hundred bucks on this stuff!" My eyebrows shot up and I gaped. She nodded as if agreeing. 

"I looked it up and it turns out this stuff is naturally deodorizing. And the scent is strong enough that you don't notice anything else anyways." She glared at the tiny bottle before shrugging and walking in the pack house. I followed right after her.

"Why do you need so much?" I followed her down the halls to the Alpha's office, following Gunnar's scent.

"I assume he's going to test it out." She said just as Phillip came running down the hall. He jumped at her and swung her around. Elin growled and he quickly put her back on her feet, lowering his head with a pout. She patted her hair and smiled at him comfortingly, grabbing his chin.

"Sorry love, I'm just going to see the Alpha." She pecked his mouth and his eyelids fluttered closed. "Why don't you wait for me in the kitchen, I'll be right there."

"Okay," I heard him whisper as he leaned into her hand adoringly. Then he nodded a quick hello to me before continuing down the hall.

I shuffled my feet awkwardly, trying to pretend I didn't see that. We continued to the Alpha's office in silence. As soon as we approached the door it swung open and I was in Gunnar's arms.

"I missed you. I don't like you being so far away." He pouted. It was moments like this that I wondered how the hell he was a dominant.

"I missed you too." I leaned into his arms and pecked his chin. He ran his nose along my neck and over my mark, making me gasp. The he quickly kissed my lips and swiped his tongue in my mouth briefly before breaking the kiss and dragging me into the office, leaving me breathless and needy. I glared at him for teasing me.

Elin was talking to Magnus and another wolf. Kate sat on the couch with two other wolves I didn't recognize. The smaller was cuddled up into the larger males side and looked nervous. Gunnar led me over to them.

"Max, I'd like you to meet Erik," He pointed to the dominant, "and his mate Aden. They're going to help us out today. Aden, this is my mate Max, that I was telling you about." Gunnar smiled gently at the small wolf and I felt briefly jealous. Clearly his mate did as well because he pulled Aden into his lap, glaring at Gunnar. Aden curled up into his lap and stroked his cheek and he relaxed. Then Aden turned to me shyly.

"Nice to meet you." He whispered in a soft, husky voice. It was a bedroom voice and I bet it drove Erik mad.
