"Hey, dad?  You here?" I called throughout the house while letting myself in with the 'key', and searched for any sign of his whereabouts, but came up with nothing.  I looked down at my Sea Shifter.  "Where do you think he could be, Kelpi?"

Kelpi barked, and then turned into a Parrot as he flew over to the fridge and sat on top of it, using his beak to peck at something on the metal door.  I frowned and walked over to it, only to see a note stuck to the fridge by a 'magnet', I believe they were called.  No idea why, though.

"Dear Taylor,

If you're reading this now, then that just means you got home earlier than I thought.  I was called into work suddenly, and thought you would be exploring more around the City, but if you have nothing else to do, why don't you go ahead and walk down to Books and Things where I signed you up for a job there with Mrs. Peters, the shopkeeper.  She could really use a hand around there now and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for you to act more Human than you do Mer.

~Signed, Your Loving Father ox"

I read aloud so Kelpi could know what it said as well, then frowned down at the penmanship that was my dad's.  What in the Sea did he mean by a job?  I shrugged.  Hmm.  Might as well find out.

I stuffed my dad's note into my short's pocket, then walked out of the house as Kelpi flew back to the ground and changed into the golden Lab he was mere seconds ago.  I remembered to grab sandals on my way out the door, though, as I slipped them on and made my way around dad's massive beach home that led up to the City.  I've always wanted to explore things on my own.

I gazed around me in awe at the rather large buildings in front of me.  In the Under Sea, there were many buildings as well, but most were made out of Coral or Rock.  These buildings, though. . .they were different.  It seems they were made out of that shiny stuff you would find at the bottom of the Ocean.  'Glass', I believe it was called.  Huh.  This was new.

I walked around some more and was careful not to run into the other Humans, as some of them were not so kind when I did run into them by accident.  I looked around for the store my father mentioned in his note, before coming to a small green colored building with a red-tiled roof, a wide wooden sign hanging before it with the name Books and Things written on it in bright yellow so that it stood out among everything else.
