I held my knapsack to my chest tightly as I walked through the halls, several people glancing at me every now and then, and it set my fish scales on edge.  I never really liked being the center of attention.  Even in the Under Sea Kingdom as a Princess, I never liked people always staring at me, because they obviously expected something of me.  I didn't like being depended on all the time.

"Oh my tail fins," Brietta now said, a huge grin on her face as she used my phrase from earlier this morning, causing me to smile softly back at her.  "That was incredible.  And I can't believe Phoenix stood up for you!  He never does that for anyone!" Bree squealed, and I chuckled lightly.

"I guess it wasn't that bad," I muttered and mentally smiled at the image of Phoenix's arm wrapped around me only a few mere seconds ago.

Bree laughed and patted my back.  "You're thinking of him, aren't you?"

I blushed deeply.  "I am not!" my voice came out a little more high-pitched than usual, practically giving away my lie to my new friend, as she laughed and shook her head.

"It's alright.  A lot of girls here are into him, but he never pays them any attention.  Maybe he would occasionally flirt with a girl, but he would never actually be serious with one."  Then Bree frowned and peered over at me.  "Except maybe you."

I raised both my eyebrows and strapped my bag over my shoulders, careful not to shake Kelpi off my headband as I did so.  "What do you mean?"

Bree lifted her camera right then and turned it on, flicking through a few pictures I saw, before she settled on one and handed it to me.  I took it from her hands and studied the image.  It was of me and Phoenix when he had his arm wrapped around me when we had sat up in the bleachers this morning.  I didn't even know she had taken a picture of this.

I studied it further and noticed the light in Phoenix's gray eyes when he looked at me, and that killer smile of his plastered on his face.  I also noticed that I was blushing faintly at the close contact we had had with one another, both my hands pressed against his chest when I was about to shove him away, my eyes narrowed on him when I noticed he was practically on top of me at that moment.  I blushed now at the simple memory of it and handed Brietta her camera back.

"That picture doesn't mean anything," I said distractedly and saw her exhale loudly before she flicked through more of her pictures, settling on a different one this time.  I took it from her when she handed it back to me and blushed even a deeper red.

The way he was looking at me in this photo, it-it made my insides squirm with Jellyfish stings.  We were in the Courtyard, his arm wrapped around me and while I was too busy glaring Brianna down, I hadn't even noticed that Phoenix's gaze had slid down to me where he smiled softly, his gray eyes alight once again.
