*Avery's POV*
She was dead. I didn't know what to think. She was my best friend. I loved her.
Kacey and I were laying down on my bed as I hugged him tight. He's been crying for days. I didn't know what else to do than what I was doing.
"Avery, I miss her so much," he sniffled.
"I know Kacey, I know."
Jax went to go get Kacey some sleeping medicine, since he couldn't sleep either. He's drank so much of Rayne's alcohol, you'd think she would scream at him. But she understands.
"Lemme get something real quick," I said climbing over him and grabbing a bottle of water. "Here, drink this. You need to stay hydrated."
"Ugh, you sound like my Mom."
"It's either that or die."
He sighed and gulped down the entire bottle. I threw it away and stood up from the bed.
"Kacey. This medicine is strong as hell. I tried this before when...never mind that doesn't matter," Jax said biting his lip and walking through the door. I hugged Jax and kissed his cheek. He squeezed my hand and gave me a small smile.
I handed Lacey another water bottle and Jax handed him the medicine. He took it and lied his head on the pillow.
Once he was asleep Jax and I went to his room and sat on his bed.
"I used to be like him Avery. I know how he feels."
"What do you mean Jax?"
"My dad," he said in quotes, "isn't really my dad. My biological father died when I was thirteen."
"What happened?"
"Well," he said combing his hand through his hair. "There was a shooting at his office, and he got shot in the head."
"Oh my God."
He nodded. "I tried killing myself Avery. I bought the same medicine I gave Kacey, and took half the bottle. My mom came in my room for something, and shoved her fingers down my throat. Then she took me to the hospital. If she wouldn't have came in... I would be dead right now Avery. I had therapy for about a year. That's about the time I decided to stop going, and start racing. I started drinking, and smoking all the time. When Mom found out, she took as her sign to get married. I then met my father I have now. I hated him so bad Avery. He never talked to me, and he always told my mother how to discipline. One day we had a long talk...and now we respect each other. He treats me like I'm his son, and I treat him like a man married to my mom."
I leaned my head against his and kissed him. "I love you."
He looked at me in the eye. "I love you too Avery."
"It's just not fair that Courtney is dead," I cried. "It's all our faults!"
"Avery!" He screamed. "It is not our faults! We were drugged by my stupid cousin! There was nothing we could have done. We're lucky WE are alive. WE could be dead right now Avery!"
"I just miss her," I sniffed into his sleeve. He rubbed my back and kissed my hair. I took three deep breaths and wiped my eyes.
"We all do..."
Leah burst into Jax's room and threw her phone to me.
"What's wrong?"
"Avery. We need to leave. Right now."
"What?"
"Jax and Kacey as well. Like, someone has an award for your body."
"What?"
"They found out you skipped the race."
"But I didn't!"
"We know that, but they don't."
"Where the hell will we go Leah?!"
"Well...."
"Leah?!"
"I was thinking Canada..."
"Okay," I said inhaling a deep breath. "Or we could go to Paris with my parents."
"Well hurry up, get packing. We leave in an hour."
I looked to Jax and kissed him before I ran to my room and woke up Kacey.
"Kacey we're all leaving. What do you need from your house that you can't live without?"
"Uhm, my dresser has four hundred dollars in it. Why are we leaving?"
"Uhm because we are all going to be killed if we don't," I responded grabbing my phone.
"Can you tell my parents?"
"No! We have to make it like we just disappeared. Make your room look perfectly normal. So you need the money, anything else?
"Uhm I don't think so..."
I nodded and sent Jax to go to Kacey's house. Leah said Michael was on his way with everything him and Leah needed. I grabbed one of Jax's sweatshirts and slipped it on. A tear rolled down my face, but I quickly wiped it away.
"Avery," Kacey whispered. "Everything will be okay."
I nodded and hugged him before grabbing a bag and put random snacks because everyone knew we'd get hungry quick.
Jax came back first and kissed my forehead as soon as he came through the door. I hugged him tight and cried.
"Paris is the city of love," Jax smiled. I nodded and sighed.
"We have to take a car that no one has really seen."
"My car," I said. "I always ride with you so no one really has seen my car."
After Michael arrived, we all got in the car and drove to the airport. We were lucky we were loaded.
"Do you even know where your parents are staying?"
"Well yeah, they go there like every other year. After my grandma died I had no one else to stay with. That's why I ended up with you."
Jax nodded and got out of the car. The airport would be filled with cops. Hopefully none of them ever caught a glimpse of them at a race.
I had no idea how this was going to work. If we all went down...it would be better than being dead from the racing guys...
