--Chicago's P.O.V--
Hugo ran outside to greet Denahi and I when we pulled into the driveway and I automatically knew that I was in major trouble based on the serious look on his face. Denahi gave me a look of sympathy as we climbed out of the car. Hugo began talking the moment my head was out in the open.
"Chicago, you are in so much trouble. It's unbelievable. Mom and Dad are beyond furious with you. Mom figured out that you took your phone back and Dad wasn't happy that you didn't come back home after Garrett showed up and they won't stop yelling."
Hugo's voice was going a hundred miles a minute and I found it hard to understand him. His emotions seemed all over the place as I pulled him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around me and his body released a sigh of relief. "I hate when they fight, he mumbled, "it scares me."
I stroked his light brown hair. "I know and I'm so sorry that they are fighting because of me." It seemed like my parents always fought because of me and it was because I could never do anything right in their opinion.
"Okay," I began, pulling Hugo back to look him in the eye. "Tell you what. Go round up your siblings. Denahi is going to take you guys somewhere. I'm going to talk to Mom and Dad and everything will be okay, I promise."
Hugo nodded, taking off inside the house again. Denahi turned to me, confusion written all over his face. "Why exactly am I taking our siblings away from here?"
"Because Mom and Dad are mad at me, not them. They shouldn't be taking their anger out on them. You saw how upset Hugo was. Hugo never gets upset, Denahi!"
My older brother sighed. "I'll take them over to Harper and Eric's."
I smiled gratefully at him as the front door flew open and Hugo, Caspian, Jonah, and Noah bounded out of the house. "You are in some deep dodo, Chicago!" Jonah called out. "Maybe even waist deep dodo," Noah added.
I stuck my tongue out at the red heads. "I can handle it, thank you very much!" Jonah rolled his eyes. "Sure you can."
"All of you get in the car," Denahi ordered. Jonah and Noah went over to the driver's side while Caspian and Hugo had to get passed me to enter the car.
I reached out and grabbed both of their shoulders and pulled them into a hug. "I love you so much and I am sorry." Hugo squeezed me back automatically while Caspian was a bit hesitant, but eventually he gave in.
"Now, both of you go have fun at Harper and Eric's, alright? Don't worry about anything." I let them both go and gently smiled at Caspian. "You know I'm terribly sorry about the thing with Lilac."
My youngest brother nodded. "I know you are, Chicago. At first, I was mad at you, but now Lilac is the one that screwed up in my eyes. If she was willing to bring that information up to you and I, she'll bring it up to anybody who asks."
I shook my head. "She won't breath a word to anyone, I promise." Caspian smiled and followed after Hugo to get into the car.
Denahi sighed. "Good luck, Chicago. This might be the last time you see daylight in awhile."
I couldn't help but think that he was right. My parents were going to ground me for the rest of my high school career and I was probably going to end up disobeying them once again, adding more years to my sentence. I slowly moved towards the front door as my brother pulled out of the driveway.
The moment I stepped into the house I could hear my parents screaming at one another. "Why can't she ever listen, Sarah? We raised her better than she is acting. First, she gets into a fight, and then she runs off with her boyfriend and doesn't come home until the next day."
I pressed my body against the wall, trying not to get noticed as I eavesdropped.
"Maybe her boyfriend is the problem," my mom suggested. "He always has a negative attitude and it doesn't seem like he obeys his parents much neither."
My father cleared his throat. "So you are saying that the boyfriend is the cause of our youngest daughter's behavior? I don't think so. Chicago is making her own decisions. She's making the wrong decisions and she needs to realize that these decisions are going to affect her in the future."
I shook my head, slowly stepping away from the wall and into the living room. Both of my parents' heads flipped around to look at me and their expressions weren't happy.
"Oh, look who decided to finally make an appearance," my mother remarked, sitting down onto the sofa and crossing her legs. "Where were you all of last night?"
"I spent the night at Garrett's," I responded.
"And you thought it would be a good idea to just disappear and sneak back in to grab your phone before leaving once again?"
I rolled my eyes at my mother. "One, I didn't just disappear, I was at my boyfriend's house. Two, I didn't sneak back in to get my phone. Hugo got it out of your room and threw it out his window for me to catch."
My dad sighed, heavily, running a hand through his ginger hair. "Now you are bringing your brother into your fight? Chicago, this is becoming utterly ridiculous."
My face became a look of disbelief. "I didn't purposely involve Hugo. He wanted to help me out and do you understand how much you guys are involving him by screaming at each other about me? He hates when you guys yell at each other. You are angry at me, not any of siblings, so don't make them suffer!"
My father automatically counteracted my response. "Maybe your siblings will learn not to be like you from your mother and I's arguing."
His words physically stung me, but there was no way I was going to show that. So instead, I crossed my arms. "Okay, that's a very good thing to say to your youngest daughter. "I hope your brothers don't end up like you." Thank you Dad for that, really, it changes everything."
My voice stayed quite firm and dripped with sarcasm as I stared my father down. My mother stayed silent on the couch, but I could tell that her mind was spinning with dozens of thoughts she wished she could voice. There was a million of things I wish I could voice, but my parents didn't want to hear my opinions.
"Harper was never like this!" The man in front of me cried. "How did you end up being the exact opposite of your sister? Your only sister? We raised you the exact same way."
"Oh, maybe it was because she was your first child? You had nine more and as each one was born, you spent less and less time with each. I was pushed off to Summer whenever the opportunity presented itself. And I'm sorry that I haven't been accepted to an Ivy League college like perfect Harper. I think that you forgot that I'm sixteen, not twenty-six!"
I started towards the staircase, wanting this argument to end. I was so tired of being the screwed up kid in the family. Everything I did was to please myself and my parents. Never in my life have I purposely messed up to anger my parents.
My feet automatically stopped on the third step as my father's words cut me to the core.
"I figured you would be the smartest and most well-behaved out of your siblings, but it seems like you're just a disappointment!"
"Quentin!" My mother snapped, finally jumping in on the conversation. "Stop!"
I flipped around. "No, Mom, it's okay. At least I know what he really thinks of me." I turned to my father. "I'm never gonna be good enough for you, are I? I'm so terribly sorry that you didn't get the perfect daughter you wanted, but you can't change me. Not now, not ever, so get fucking used to it."
I didn't want for a response as I started up the stairs and slammed the door to my room.
That was the first time I had cried in a long time.
