--Chicago's P.O.V--
My foot bounced up and down as I waited for one of my friends to show up at the school to rescue me from the death glares of Elodie Blanchard. She seemed very unhappy and I really didn't understand why unless she was still hung up over the hair situation, which was unlikely. However, I just ignored her and continued to scroll through my Twitter feed.
Garrett had to get seven stitches in his left arm and ten in his right to stop all of the bleeding. The nurse was surprised that he didn't hit a major artery or feel lightheaded from the loss of blood. However, he knew where his major arteries were and that was a curse and a blessing at the same time. It was a curse because if he wanted to die again, he could easily, but it was also a blessing because he could never accidentally hit an artery.
The stitches were also not cheap and Denahi had enough money to pay the doctor, but I automatically thought back to the argument I heard between my parents. All our bank accounts were frozen for the time being and I wondered if my brother knew that. I wondered if any of my siblings knew that. I couldn't handle being the only Beaumont child with this information. I would go absolutely insane.
I was knocked out of my thoughts by a foot lightly connecting with my leg. I yanked my headphones out and looked up to see Micah, staring down at me. "Hey, you are early today. Where's everyone else?"
Micah lowered himself down beside me, releasing a breath. "We had a little problem on the way here, so Jonah and Noah are outside trying to fix it."
I raised my eyebrows. "What problem?"
"Well, Caspian was being a bump on a log because he didn't get much sleep last night and Noah was trying to cheer him up with a prank. I didn't know exactly what he did because I was trying to concentrate on driving, but it involved gum and I'm guessing the prank backfired on Hugo."
I instantly felt a sense of motherly instinct take over as I thought about Hugo getting hurt. I was only one year older than him and two years older than Caspian, but they were my babies. They were the siblings that needed to be protected from my parents' opinions. All my older siblings could fend for themselves, Hugo and Caspian could not.
"Did they seriously injure Hugo? Does he still have all of his body parts and do they function properly?"
"The twins have never seriously injured one of us!" Micah injected.
"Remember the time they almost made Christian go blind in one eye?"
Realization dawned on my brother's face. "Okay, that was a long time ago, but to answer your question at hand, yes, Hugo has all his body parts and they are okay. I just don't know about his hair though. They got gum in it."
A laugh erupted from my chest as I thought about the look Hugo must have had on his face when the gum found its way into his hair. He probably had the thickest hair of us all, not counting Harper, which meant that the gum probably had to be cut out.
Elodie's eyes narrowed at my laughter, but I didn't even look her way. I got to my feet before helping Micah up. "The bell rings in ten minutes and I'm pretty good at cutting hair."
"You realize that Hugo is going to cry if you cut his hair, right?" My older brother questioned as we made our way out the door. "His hair is his baby."
I nodded. "Trust me, I know, but it has to be done."
•••
It turned out that the gum really was stuck in Hugo's hair and when I came upon the scene he was screaming as Jonah, Noah, and Caspian took turns trying to pull the gum out of his hair. As soon as he saw that I was coming to help, he relaxed, but that relaxation was very short-lived as I determined that his hair needed to be cut.
