Chapter Thirty Four
"Wait. You're telling me that you and Lenne have known each other since middle school? Holy crap. I didn't even know that." Cathy said in astonishment, taking a sip of her beer that Mateo had offered her. Jake chuckled and nodded beside me, glancing at me with a smirk. "Technically speaking, in middle school, I wasn't fully hell bent on making her notice me in any way but the right way. She was oblivious and smiled too much and didn't even glance at me so I had to get her to look at me somehow right? Eventually, it became a competition of some sort where I tried everything, even gave her hell, to get her to give in. She still hasn't and I'm living with her for god's sake." Jake chuckled, gulping down the last bit of his beer and winking at me. Mateo whistled and laughed along with a tipsy Jaqueline and a surprisingly not so buzzed Cathy.
"To be fair, I didn't really care for boys in middle school. I mean can you blame me? Did you not hear about cooties?" I joked, rolling my eyes and laying back into the cushioned seat of the booth we were sitting at. "Lenne, I'm pretty sure the idea of cooties ended in like the third grade." Jacqueline giggled, sliding another shot over to me. Everyone burst out in laughter, agreeing with her to pick on me. "Well maybe for everyone else but, not for me," I said loudly, downing the shot of burning liquor with a smirk. This was not going to feel good in the morning. Jake shook his head with a lopsided grin, taking my shot glass away from me and the bottle of beer near me.
"Alright chump, slow it down on the drinking or we're going to have another incident like the one at the party. You don't want me in your bed again do you?" He winked, my face going red and the rest of the group hollering out with wolf whistles and laughter. It went on like this for the rest of the night, us laughing and flirting with one another. Honestly, I think even at some point, me and Cathy ended up kissing but I wasn't sure.
The light was streaming in through the window, making me wince and groan, looking for shelter from the brightness under my duvet. Clearly it was the next morning and my choice on taking all those shots were having serious consequences. My head was pounding as if someone was beating on it like a drum and I was pretty sure my makeup was smeared to the point of resemblance to a racoon. Slowly getting up, I basically dragged myself to the restroom, not even stopping to question why there were a sleeping Jake and Mateo on the floor of my room.
"Oh my fucking God!" I screamed when I turned on the bathroom light and saw a sleeping Cathy in the bathtub. My shriek made her jolt awake and slam her head into the tiled wall. Groaning, she stood up only to fall back down onto her ass due to her still having her heels on. She cursed under her breath and threw the heels at me for waking her up. Barely dodging the pumps, I flicked her off and looked in the mirror. Surprisingly, I didn't look as bad as I had thought I did. Sure, the makeup around my eyes was a bit smeared but overall, I just looked like someone had done a smokey eye effect on me. My hair was wavy and loose, out of my braid from last night.
"What the hell was that?" a voice mumbled from the doorway, making me and Cathy turn towards a sleepy Mateo. His shirt was rumpled and his hair disheveled. We chuckled and shrugged, rubbing our eyes and heading out of the confined bathroom.
"Where's Jaqueline? I see a shirtless Jake but no Jaqueline." Cathy said in a raspy voice, coughing and running her hand through her curly locks. I shrugged and padded over to Jake who was sleeping on the floor shirtless with one of my pillow tucked under him. I kicked his side, causing him to grab my ankle and pull me down towards him. I landed on top of his warm chest, his breathing steady and unfazed. He opened one eye slightly and closed it again, wrapping his arms around me and nuzzling his face into the crook of my neck. His warm breath was sending tingles down my spine as I tried to wiggle and escape from his grasp. I even tried looking at an amused Cathy and Mateo for help but they quickly exited the room.
"I need fifteen more minutes of sleep so stop moving princess," Jake mumbled, tightening his grip on me and tracing small circles on my hip with his thumb. My breathing hitched and I think he noticed because he went back to just simply holding me in place.
"Yeah well, I need to go find Jacqueline buddy so, up you go Sleeping Beauty." I chuckled, prying his hands off me and standing up, making him groan and whimper like a puppy. I laughed and walked out of the room, leaving an annoyed Jake mumbling to himself as he searched for his shirt. I skipped down the stairs and saw Cathy and Mateo leaning over a sleeping Jacqueline on the recliner. We all looked at each other in silence before laughing loudly and pushing her off the recliner. Her body hit the floor with a thud, immediately waking her up. She laid there for a minute complaining silently, before lifting her head and glaring at all three of us, only make us laugh even more. "What's so funny?" said Jake, stepping off the last step and walking over to us with a small smirk. Jaqueline scowled and rolled her eyes at our poker faces.
"Oh, nothing lover boy, besides the fact that these idiots thought it'd be funny to wake me up when I clearly need to sleep through this hangover," Jaqueline said in a snarky tone, sitting up and rubbing her temples. The rest of us rolled our eyes at her dramatics and walked towards the kitchen on a hunt for some type of painkiller. After rummaging through 6 cabinets, we finally found where my mom kept her stash of painkillers for 'emergencies'. "Sweet baby Jesus, relief!" yelled Mateo when we found, making us all groan and whine at his tone of voice. He simply shrugged and downed the two pills we handed him.

Buenas tardes Peaches, how are you doing today? How was school/work? I hope it was amazing. This chapter is just really the group hanging out together. What did you think of Lenne and Jake's moment? Did I do a good job? So many questions, I know. Anyways, in case you don't read Refusing To Break (my other book), you should know that I leave for Hawaii to visit my biological father on June 2nd so I'll try my best to keep up with my updates for both books. That being said, any suggestions, comments, or ideas can be messaged to me or left in the comments below as always. Love you guys and I'll update next week. -Aime
