It was cold. That was one fact that I was absolutely sure about. Cold and smelly. I tried to move but my body hurt all over. After minutes of struggling I finally managed to sit up but regretted it almost immediately. My head hurt so much; it felt like it was slammed into a wall continuously. I raised my hand to my head and brought it back to see flakes of dry blood. The only question going through my mind now was what the hell happened to me?

I heard the faint sound of cars moving about and I tried my best to move towards the noise. I came out of an alley and stepped out onto a sidewalk. I almost tripped over my feet and fell against a wall. I used my hand to keep myself up. I hardly had any strength in me when I woke up and it seemed that I used it all to get to where I was currently standing.

I leaned against the wall and slid down to the ground. A little girl and her mom walked by me and I looked up at them. The girl pointed at me and I saw her mom pulling her away, tell her to ‘stay away from the homeless person’. I wasn’t homeless. I just didn’t know where I was right now.

An old man and woman came over and I was expecting them to do the same thing but instead she put down her bags and knelt down in front of me.

“Oh my God! Are you okay?” she exclaimed. I couldn’t see clearly but I could hear her just fine. “Markus, come over here. We need to call an ambulance.”

“No, please.” If I was sent to the hospital now, my brother would find out. I didn’t want him to see me like this.

“What’s your name?” I thought about answering her for a second before shaking my head.

“Ev-”I stopped. My voice was hoarse. How long had it been since I had a glass of water?

“The ambulance are on their way.” I heard the man-Markus- say. “Doesn’t she have any ID on her?”

I felt the woman take my wallet out of my pocket. “Her name’s Evelyn Dawn. She’s only sixteen, Markus!”

I tried to sit up again but I couldn’t. I groaned in pain and held my hand to my stomach. “Evelyn, do you know what happened to you?”

I closed my eye and saw the darkened silhouette of a man standing over me. “I-I think I was raped.”

The woman gasped and held me close to her. I noticed that her husband wouldn’t come any closer. I felt my eyes start to pool with tears. I hugged her back. I needed the comfort, she didn’t seem threatening. She seemed like a trustworthy person.

“We’ll stay with you till the ambulance gets here.” She said softly.

“Please, don’t leave me.” I whimpered.

“Don’t worry. I’ll stay here with you.” She wrapped both of her arms around me and held me in a warm embrace. “You’re so young. No one deserves something so awful.”

I heard the siren and saw the flashing lights get brighter as they neared us. The vehicle stopped just in front of us and the door opened to reveal a man wearing a dark blue uniform.
