~Evelyn~

The new house was rather large. It could easily be mistaken for a mansion. Our jaws hung slack as we took in the amazing sight. I laughed in my mind. This house could rival Landon's.

I grabbed my bag from the car and walked next to the social worker to finally meet this long lost aunt of mine.

"Are you ready?" Ms. Norman asked. I nodded and she proceeded to ring the bell.

We didn't have to wait long before the door opened. I instinctively took a step back and nearly missed the step. I gave a small smile to reassure Eleanor that I was okay.

"Ms. Norman, how nice to see you again." The same lady from the photo said stepping outside. "These must be the kids."

She knelt down in front of Mark and smiled at him. "Hey buddy, what's your name?"

"Mark." Mark said and hugged my leg.

"He gets shy." I said. "I'm Evelyn; that's Nick and Eleanor."

"Hi." They said in unison.

"It's nice to meet you all. I'm Heather." She stepped away from the door and ushered us inside. "I've been searching for my sister's family for years. I was so glad when Ms. Norman called me. I wished that it would have been under batter circumstances."

I nodded and gave her a quick smile. I looked around the house and embraced the amount of light that was streaming in. Our house was always dark and cold, it was nice to be able to breathe indoors again.

"I can understand that you're a bit weary about me, all I can do is try to make you see that I'm not a bad person." Heather said looking at me.

"Only time will tell." I answered. "Will you let us visit Travis?"

"Travis is your brother, correct?" I nodded. "Of course, I'll have one of my drivers take you if I'm not available myself."

I furrowed my brows at her. Drivers? I mentally shook it out of my head and took a few steps closer to the lounge. It was big too, but there wasn't anyone in it.

"I live alone." Heather said suddenly. "My husband passed away a few years ago. I don't have any children of my own so maybe you'll find new friends at school."

I turned to face her. I'd forgotten that we would be changing schools. Oh well, I hated those assholes at school anyway. "Are we going to transfer immediately?"

"Not yet. You can finish this semester since it's the last week anyway."

"I think you can show the kids their rooms now." Ms. Norman said cutting in.

"Right." Heather agreed. "Follow me."

She led us up a flight of stairs and down a long hallway that had various paintings gracing the walls. I recognised a few of them from the assignments we did on artists in History and Art.
