Sixty eight

"We need to rethink our steps. You know we have to."
Merlin had taken his wife back to their chambers, to rethink about their position. That was really necessary.
"Arthur and Gwen are not going to listen to us, Merlin. They won't understand the situation."
"We are both under a lot of pressure, but you can't speak like that to Gwen. I know that she is our friend, but she is also our queen. We are talking about her daughter here, Idriath," Merlin replied. "Wouldn't you want to know if something was going on with Evander, or the girls?"
"Yggraine her situation is very extreme, and don't you dare denying that," the sorceress hissed to her husband in their special language. "Besides that, you know that I'm right."
"Lucy-"
"Do you really think I don't hear the people talking in the streets, Merlin?" Lucy asked her husband. "We are more feared then loved, Merlin. What we can do... Legend about our powers are known in all the lands of Albion. The stories about the battle of Camelot are still going around, but not about the victory. People are still talking about what we did there that day. They think we are immortals. Gods."
"But we are immortals!" Merlin yelled to his wife.
When the words had left his mouth, he realised what he had actually said.
They were immortals.
People feared them.

"YOU!"
Apparently, Arthur had found out about what Lucy and Merlin had kept from him and Gwen, and now, Arthur was coming to get the story from Merlin.
"Arthur please-"
"Why didn't you tell me, Merlin?!" The king asked. "After everything we have been through! I honestly thought-"
Suddenly, Arthur was unable to open his mouth anymore.
"I will explain everything to you, if you promise to shut your mouth. Idriath is with Ygraine, and she is not far away from getting mad. Do we want her to be mad, Arthur?"
"Merlin-"
Merlin his eyes glowed brightly gold, and when Artur shut his mouth, he grabbed him by his arm, and pulled him to a lower level of the tower.
"Okay, I am going to explain everything to you right now, and after that, you can yell at me as much as you want. Does that sound fair enough?"
"You better have a pretty good explanation," Arthur growled.
So it happend, that Merlin explained their ways of thinking to the king of Camelot, and the further the story went, the better Arthur understood their ways of acting.
"I understand why you and Lucy did this, but you should not have kept this from Guinevere and me. Ygraine is our responsibility. Your only responsibility is her magical education."
"I know," Merlin replied. "And I am truly sorry Arthur. Really, I am. Do you still remember how it was back in the day?"
"I do."
That was the only thing Arthur said.
Of course he remembered how it was back in the day. How could he ever forget that?
Knowing that the horrible things that had happend to Lucy and Merlin would happen to his little girl as well... It tore him apart. More then he could say.
"I should apologise for my wife her behaviour as well, sire," Merlin said. "She had no right to speak like that against Gwen."
"Is she all right?" Arthur asked to his former man servant. "I have noticed she has become more... stressed."
"Arthur, have you looked at me?" Merlin asked. "What do you see?"
"My clothpole of a court sorcerer."
"Very funny. Haven't you noticed that we haven't aged since the battle of Camelot?"
"You are the most powerful sorcerer to ever be alive," Arthur said. "I thought-"
"You see," Merlin continued, "that is exactly Idriath her problem. We aren't stupid, Arthur, we know exactly how the people of Camelot think about us. That we are higher creatures."
Merlin sighed.
"Life used to be easier."
"I absolutely agree with that," Arthur answered. "And I know you will do everything in your power to help my little girl, Merlin."
"We didn't want that you and your family would live in fear," Merlin said. "We-"
"I know, Merlin," Arthur said. "I understand. It's okay. It really is."
