Warning(s): protective!Bucky

You and the rest of the Avengers were in a conference room, sat at the large table in the middle of the room, waiting for Director Fury to join the meeting he had called.

Everyone was having a casual conversation with the person next to them. You were trying to listen to what Clint was telling you but you got distracted by your boyfriend, Bucky, who was sat across from you. He was staring at you, not intensely, his gaze just wandered and settled on you. When he caught you looking at him he sent a small smile. Steve had to wave his hand in front of Bucky to make him pay attention to the conversation they were having. You couldn't help but laugh before turning your attention to Clint, not without apologising for not listening.

Soon Nick Fury came in the room, wishing a good morning to everyone before dropping a file on the table in front of you and circling the table to take a seat himself.

You looked at the file in front of you and your eyebrows arched. You glanced at Bucky really quickly and saw him give you a confused look. He nodded at the file in front of you and you shrugged.

"Uhm, Director Fury?" You called out quietly.

"Yes, Y/L/N?"

"What... What is this?" You pointed at the file.

"Well why don't you read it and find out?" Fury said, sending you a glare.

You gulped and took the file in hand. You opened it and took out the papers. You read the information out loud to everyone who was sitting at the table. The file was about a small evil corporation, not well known but fast growing. If you didn't stop them soon, they could have cause a lot of destruction. They had a small base in a warehouse just outside of the city. Anyone could have easily handled it alone.

"You think you can handle it?" Fury asked, crossing his arms on his chest.

You lifted your gaze up from the files and looked at Fury to make sure you were the one he was talking to. He was. You nodded, "Yes, definitely." You said with confidence.

"Okay that's it, then. Y/N's going on this mission alone. Of course we'll send people to take the enemies in and lock them up afterwards. Now let's—"

"No." Bucky interrupted him.

"Excuse me?" Fury turned to look at Bucky, setting his hands on the table, leaning forward.

"I don't think Y/N should go on that mission alone." Bucky said, now louder. "She's not ready."

"Not ready?" You asked in disbelief. You couldn't believe he was saying all this. He was your boyfriend. He was supposed to support you and not be the one to put you down.

"Yes." He said firmly. "This mission is too dangerous for you. I don't think you will be able to handle it all alone."

You felt your jaw tightened and your eyes started to water. You gathered all the papers in the file and grabbed it. "Can I take these with me?" You said slowly and quietly, afraid of raising your voice because it might crack. Fury nodded and you stormed out of the room, slamming the door closed.

Bucky stared at the slammed door and he felt his shoulders slump. He frowned as he clenched his fists on the arm rests of the office chair.

"I can't believe you did that." Natasha called out and Bucky sent her a glare. "She's your girlfriend! You're supposed to support her!" She yelled out.

"Natasha," Fury warned her. "Not now." He said and Natasha turned her attention towards Fury again, not without sending a snarky comment to Bucky, in Russian.
