!!IMPORTANT!! About the EU Copyright Directive....

Okay....

First of all, I think I should let you all know that I don't know shit about politics, news, whatever is happening in the real world, alright? I'm dumb, uncultured little piece of shit who just enjoysw writing stories from time to time and spend most of my time online retweeting memes and stuff I'm interested in, watching youtube videos... 

So I need you to understand that what I'm about to say may not make sense and I'm up for learning. Please, educate me if you see fit.

Also, I think I should apologize for and warn you that I'm probably going to use a lot of strong language in this little A/N so... I'm sorry but I'm frustrated and kind of scared so... yeah...

So... This fucking EU Copyright Directive... I'm pissed.

Article 13 passed today when EU voted for/against it.... What's wrong with people?

Like I get that it's annoying when people steal your shit but this directive is gonna change the internet especially in EU. I don't know how much it's gonna affect countries that don't belong in the EU but I know it's gonna affect them somehow. 

Now, this decision isn't fully finalized, there is still a meeting or something being held at some time and depending on what they decide to do, the final decision will happen then.

Now, if this directive is going to happen, that means that all of our creations such as fanfiction, fanart, memes etc. will be deleted from the internet.

As a person who writes fanfiction, I'm fucking terrified.

I don't know whether fanfiction about real people is going to be dealt with the same way as fanfiction based on fictional characters/stories that other people have created... But if you write fanfiction based on the latter... You're pretty much screwed if this directive is gonna happen.

I heard somewhere that if you for example post a meme online that you don't own the copyrights to, it will be automatically deleted. Now, I don't know how the fuck that's gonna work. Something that isn't meant to be posted will probably get posted and it will just cause a lot of problems and... ugh, I'm just so frustrated.

Obviously, there are people who steal other people's content. I understand that people don't want that to happen, they don't want their content to be blatantly stolen. However, if you use someone else's content in a transformative way and use your own creativity on it, I think that's fine. If anything, you're getting more exposure with it. It's a win-win situation, is it not?

If EU is going to go through with this directive, this will affect everyone online. It doesn't only affect any creator on the internet, it affects everyone who uses internet. Whether you're form the EU or not! Non EU countries will be affected by this too, to a certain extent. I don't know how it's gonna work around the world but it will affect everyone.

Just wanted to let you know that my and other people's content might get deleted online. This might even mean that people living in the EU might get limitation to what websites they'll be able to visit. This might mean I won't even be able to use Wattpad anymore... I don't 100% know if that can happen, so again, I might be saying something that makes no sense. Did I mention I'm stupid and don't know what I'm talking about?

I'm scared, guys....

I don't know what I'm gonna do if my works will be deleted. I'm planning on saving all of my writings on my computer so I'LL still have them but... you probably won't. It really depends on if this directive is gonna happen or not. 

In my opinion, this whole thing is unnecessary and it's limiting our creative freedom. Instead of being so concerned with memes we all should be making sure artists and other creators are paid fairly for their work AND at the same time protecting freedom of expression and creativity on the internet. We shouldn't accept anything that puts that freedom in danger.

Get your daily dose of Phil! He's probably my only source of news at the moment which... I don't think is a good thing, I should keep up with the news myself more but Phil is someone I can trust with philling me in on what's going on in the world. 

But yeah, anyway... That was my frustrated rant about this stupid shit so... Leave comments if you like, let's discuss this further if you want to... I don't know... Educate me if what I said was wrong...

That's about it. 

Thanks for listening to me and if you haven't heard of this before, I highly suggest you watch Phil's video(s) relating to this topic (he actually posted a new PDS video on youtube just few minutes ago and he talks about Article 13. I need to watch it myself too, so I don't know what he has yet to say... I'm scared) and researching it yourself. I should do the latter too.
