||KYNDALL POV||

Josh hurried me up to the apartment and sat me down in the bathroom. He held up my hair and looked around my neck carefully.

"Tell me if this hurts, okay." He gently poked my neck on the side. I winced.

"What happened?" He asked.

"My dad got mad because I wouldn't stay. Next thing I knew he had me against the wall." I said. My voice was so scratchy. It sounded like talking was painful, and it was.

"God I'm so sorry."

I felt so groggy. Part of me wanted to cry, part of me wanted to sleep.

"Do you need anything specific?"

"Water, please."

He had a glass in seconds, and I started sipping on it. He watched my every move.

"I can't believe this," he mumbled.

"I didn't think... He never did that before."

"Please don't go back," he said, sort of pleading.

"I won't, I promise. Not as long as he's there."

My phone buzzed.

Selena: moving into the dorms, i can't stay at home anymore. Is there anything else you need from here before the end of the month?

Kyndall: I'm happy for you. I think I've got what I need. I'll let you know if I need anything. Love you

Selena: love you too

"Selena is moving out," I told Josh. My voice wasn't any better.

"That's good, she doesn't need to be there either."

"I'm worried about my mom, but at the same time she let him come." No one should have to be in that situation, but at the same time it was her fault.

"Kyndall, what are you gonna do if he doesn't leave?"  Josh asked. I sighed.

"I guess I'll get a job and figure it out until I leave for college next fall. I'm seriously don't know, I never thought any of this would happen."

I really hoped my mom would pay for my college like she promised. She had no reason to go back on that. It was her fault all of this was happening.

"Your neck is starting to bruise." Josh lifted my hair back again. The way his fingers gently grazed my skin made shiver each time.

"HELOOOOOO JISHWA!" Tyler's voice rang out as we heard the door open.

"What great timing," Josh mumbled. We got up and went for the living room.

"Hey! Jesus Kyndall you look horrible," he said looking at my puffy face.

"Thanks Tyler," I said sarcastically.

"Sorry, i wasn't trying to be- what happened to your neck?" He came closer and studied the forming bruises, then looked at Josh.

"It was my dad, you've missed a lot," I said.

"You're not gonna stay there tonight are you?" He asked with concern.

"Hell no, she's staying here until he leaves." Josh stepped into the conversation.

"Well, no not exactly. I'll probably try to find a job and-"
