Chapter 30

“-were told that for our own safety, we did strictly what he said,” I tensed quickly as I still crouched lowly in the bushes, my muscles starting to warm uncomfortably as they contracted. I recognized the barely there voice, and that was what had me stirring slightly. My senses, heightened beneficially every since my shift, picked up the low frequency of Kane's voice. I heard the light swish of air as they drew closer to my position just outside the back window, Kyle squatting defensively beside me despite his fragile state; he was almost worst off than I. Picking up on a light snort that I easily identified as Luke's, I leaned up more.

“Well then, I guess you better do so, haven't you? Where's the idiot waiting?” He snipped back, sounding too excitedly anxious for my stomach to like. I winced lightly as it churned some, just his voice irking me.

“Uh, just less than a mile away. Luke, were are we going?” this was Zack, sounding somewhat out of breath as they drew nearer now.

“Into the main room, fool. If I'm going to be seeing Damien, I'm going to need my bargaining chip, his little bi-” His next word, nothing but an insult I'm assuming, was suddenly cut off as he let out a small choking sound. I placed a hand tightly over my mouth, eyes meeting intensely with Kyle's as we both realized the same thing; Luke had just discovered my absence.

“Luke, what-?”

“Where. Is. She?” He didn't shout it, but it really didn't matter. The fierce harshness behind his words made up for that perfectly. I bit my lip behind my hand, fighting off the urge to laugh at his anger as the air shifted, his displeasure seeming to rotten the oxygen around us. However, something else around us also changed, causing my small, slightly dormant wolf to shift relentlessly inside of me. Unsure, I brushed it off as I continued listening to the conversation.

“W-who?” Zack stuttered out, and I figured he felt the same threat behind Luke's words as I. However, even I had to mentally face palm him for this fault.

Who else would Luke be talking about?

“Mallory, Damiens' little chew toy you fool!” this sentence seemed to be roared at the top of his lungs as I felt the window pane above me shake lightly. I clutched together even tighter, shaking lightly at the ferocity in his voice. My muscles burning and heart thrumming, I was just about to move from my spot when the second change in the air registered.

“So let me get this; you kidnapped my mate, just to loose her?” Damiens' chuckled followed easily behind his words. “Looks like I was worried for nothing,” he breathed out easily. I was slowly catching up, something inside of me shaking excitedly over hearing his voice again. I felt like the intense battles I had been fighting over the last few days were suddenly all won for me, erased from my memories. I felt my muscles unwind as I unconsciously scrambled from my place, intending to head straight to Damien. A hand landing sharply on my arm stopped me, chasing my breath away briefly as I stared at it before linking it to it's owner.

The inside of the house was heavy and thick with silence as Kyle leaned in towards me, putting his finger to his lips in a silencing moment. I was frozen, wide eyed, as I waited for the battle to begin within the house. I wanted to struggle relentlessly against Kyle and demand him to let me go. However, I also wanted to cry and scream at my entire situation, but neither would be wise at the moment. Nothing was certain, and I didn't know who had the upper hand inside; moving without information could get someone killed easily.

Nodding hesitantly at Kane's stern expression, I watched as his head cocked slightly to the side as talking once again started up in the house.

“I'd say 'what a lovely surprise,' but lets face it; it's not lovely or surprising.” Luke sneered quietly, his inner anger seething out through his words. Damien, however, seemed to have gotten bored with all pretenses by his next question.
