Chapter 1

Rolling my eyes at Ashlyns stupidity, I attempted to think of a sympathetic response. I had told her he was a mistake; but had she listened to me? Of course not, she just had to go and date that jerk. And now, here she was, exactly where I predicted her to be; he had cheated on her.

Being a teenager really sucked sometimes.

I tried not to text back an ‘I told you so’ to her as I walked down main street. Heading home from school, I had my head bent down as I talked to friends through text. Probably not the best thing to be doing; plenty of wiser people have been killed in this position.

Back then, however, I had thought I was invincible. A much needed wakeup call was on the horizon.

I was just typing my reply to her sad story when I bumped into someone. Awareness and warmth immediately shot up my arm and I froze in response. My head snapped up and I turned to look at the person I had run into and found myself swallowed by a pair of hypnotic silver eyes. I felt my mouth drop open as warmth traveled through my body.

 Oh my wow, those eyes!

They were amazing and went perfectly with his light brown, spiked hair. The man in front of me had to be at least twenty and was gorgeous. He was tall, at least 6’6 and had huge muscles with a wide back.

The feeling he gave, one of danger, seemed to flow naturally from him. I found that strange. Many other males I’d known had tried…and failed… at creating that whole ‘bad boy, dangerous’ vibe. He appeared to be able to project it merely with the way his hooded eyes raked over me.

We both were suspended in time as we took the opportunity to observe each other. I wasn’t sure what exactly he found so interesting in me. What interest could a scrawny seventeen year old such as myself be for him, a big man of at least twenty.

His clothing also spoke of his attitude; the way his leather jacket collar was propped up gave him an alarming feel of mystery. Dressed simply, his whole frame seemed to take up the entire side walk. It was an over bearing presence, and yet, I couldn’t seem to decide whether to take a step back, or one closer.

I watched as his facial expression quickly shifted, his handsome yet frightening glare melting away into a wide eyed, anxious look. His lips were slightly full, not enough to be considered feminine, but still appealing to see and inviting all the same. With a face full of hard planes and a strong chin, his whole appearance screamed masculine, something I wasn’t quite accustomed too.

High school boys tended to look more boyish.

“Uhm,” my voice was shaky and breathless as I spoke, a weird mixture of terror and attraction. “S-sorry,” I squeaked quickly, brushing my hair to the side nervously. His face had shifted again, a wall falling over his features so that he simply stared at me blankly. I watched his overly proportionally sized hands curl into tight balls as he nodded stiffly, taking a small step to the side.
