Chapter 31

Screaming... someone was screaming. It was high pitched and scratchy; whoever this high frequency noise was coming from would have a severe throat ache by the end of the day. But that was their problem at the moment; mine was only focusing on Damien. I had to, I couldn't look away for the life of me.

The screaming stopped, dying harshly as I felt someone wrap an arm around my waist. It wasn't Damien; his only move had been to jump to his feet and face the snarling Luke. Kyle; Kyle must have been the one to grab me. The person behind me struggled to pull me back, only further adding to my suspicion that it was Kyle.

“I'm through messing around Luke. No more games, it's over.” Kyle leaned me up against the side of the wall as Damien spoke, a low growl rolling thought his words. Luke, being in his animal form, simply snarled in return. Damien was right.

The games were over.

Luke lunged at Damien, and he reacted just as fiercely, shifting immediately. Someone started screaming again and I fought the urge to scream back at them to shut up, silence so that I could focus. Damien was everywhere, Luke just a second behind as he followed. I watched so intently that I ended up hunching over, leaning in closer to the fight even as the rest of my body stayed safely behind. My eyes buzzed inside of my skull as I struggled to keep up on their quick, sharp actions, my attention trained on the bigger, majestic light brown wolf.

I panicked as my vision was limited, Tyler's face appearing as I felt his hands touch my face. “Mallory, shush, shush. You have to stop screaming.” he hissed anxiously, trying to keep his face calm as his eyes kept nervously jumping towards the fight. My mouth snapped, and I realized as my body took a deep breath of appreciation, that I had been the one screaming the entire time. I had been annoyed by my own screaming.

Annoying.

I nodded softly to him, gulping up air greedily as I registered the lack there of. He stared at me for another short moment before more snarls sounded, both of us glancing over to see two more wolves jump out from the broken window. Tyler let out a soft swear as I realized how not even a minute had passed since Damien had been thrown out of the window.

It had felt like hours.

“Watch her, please,” Tyler begged as I felt him lean Erica, who was out cold, against my side. I nodded immediately, knowing I owed him much more for everything he had done for me. He straightened then, looking to Kyle who stood right beside him. Giving him a once over, I realized that most of his wounds had healed immensely.

Werewolves, honestly.

“Feeling good enough to fight?” Tyler asked Kyle as Zack and Kane inched closer in their wolf forms, flashing their canines and snarling.

“Definitely,” Kyle nodded, suddenly looking more somber then I had ever seen him. Without another word, they both shifted simultaneously, facing off Zack and Kane.

Making sure Erica wouldn't slip, I trained my eyes back on the battle between Luke and Damien, flinching as they repeatedly nicked and pounced on one another. This wasn't two previous friends fighting for control.

This was two complete enemy’s battling to the death. I knew Damien wouldn't let Luke live, not with everything he had done, and I couldn't find it in my to feel bad about it; not with a weak and scraggly Erica leaning against me and the pains of my own torture at Luke's hand throbbing.
