Kat:

I risk giving one last glance at Marc, wondering if I will ever actually see him again. Part of me wishes things had been different but the other part of me likes things just the way they are.

The whole hike down Jackson seemed a bit paranoid about my safety. Every little scuff of my shoe or slip of my pole would send him into a fit of worry.

"Jackson." I laugh. He looks at me his eyes wide with worry." I'm fine."

But when I said that I took a step and fell on my ass. I laughed but Jackson was slightly pissed off, thinking I did it on purpose.

"Come on lighten up. This is our last hike for a while. We have to enjoy it while it lasts." I say as I struggle to get up.

"I know." Jackson says sounding slightly ashamed. " I just don't want anything to happen to you or the baby." He shrugs.

"Well we are both fine." I say lightly patting my stomach. "Although we should go and see a doctor soon."

A look of pure terror crossed Jacksons face. "What about telling your parents and my parents." We both freeze. Shit.

"Why don't we just go back to the hut and pretend that the rest of the world doesn't exist." I suggest.

"Fine by me." Jackson laughs. But obviously we continue down the mountain.

We make great time. We're down at the parking lot only 4 hours after we left. It would have been quicker but Jackson insisted on going nice and slow.

We throw our giant bags in the back of Jacksons old green Jeep and head back into civilization.

I don't know when my next real hike will be, but I will miss the mountains. But I will enjoy being a mother even more.

"If it's a girl, Maddison." Jackson yells over the wind. I nod. Maddison, where it all began and ended. Maddison.
