After dinner, Zoee escorted us to our rooms. I immediately jumped into the shower. It felt so good to get all that dirt and grime off. After an 45 minutes or so, I got out and read for a few hours. When I finally crawled in between the sheets, the full realization hit me. For the first time since The Reaping, I cried.
In the morning, I woke up to see a green plaid shirt and jeans on my dresser. I quickly changed into them, and made myself decent for breakfast.

As I walked into the dining car, I couldn't help but hate the Capitol for wasting so much food.

Last night, we only ate around half of our dinner. In The Capitol, there was no such thing as leftovers.
I desperately wanted to bring this food back to 7, but I knew I couldn't.
After breakfast, the first glimpse of The Capitol made its way into sight. The bright, candy coloured buildings looked good enough to eat. Ethan and I ran to the window and gasped. "Wow" he whispered. I pressed my nose against the glass in amazement. After a while, the details came into view.

My mouth couldn't help but open wide, and neither could my eyes. The buildings were like coloured water, moving and shimmering in the light.

The oddly dressed Capitol People crowded around the train tracks, clapping and jumping with delight, like puppies when presented with a treat.
I waved and smiled at them, and so did Ethan. I made sure to make a big show of putting my arm around him and kissing him on the cheek. I was the oldest, after all.

I could vaguely hear Joanna telling me in the background, "Seems like you already figured out your angle."

But it wasn't a show. True, I did do it on purpose, to gain sponsors, but it also was how I really felt. I would protect him till my last breath. I turned and nodded at her, but only briefly. I felt the motion of the train slow, and then chug to a stop. Hunger Games, here I come.
