✨✨✨✨

High school. Pretty lame. You always had a deep disliking for too early mornings, hectic bus rides, boring lectures, toxic cafeteria food, and unnecessary homework but with your junior year coming to a close you were slowly regretting just sliding through it all. It was the last week of school until summer break and you were trying your hardest not to fall asleep in your AP literature class.

"Pst, (Y/N)," you heard your name being whispered beside you as you cocked your head to the side, your mouth slightly agape. The person who spoke your name was a close friend of yours who liked to tease you a lot but still appreciated you as a friend. "Hey, did you hear what's gonna happen after school?"

"No. Why? What's going on?" You said, standing up as soon as you heard the bell ring for the end of the period. Walking out of the classroom together, your friend filled you in on what was happening later at the end of the school day. They said that there was going to be a fight by the large oak tree that shaded the front of the school. "Do you want to go see it? Is that why you're telling me this?"

"Yeah! You coming with? Get a little blood on ya." They called, throwing their arm around your shoulders and guiding you to your next shared class. By the time lunch passed and your last three classes were over you started to feel hopeful that this fight could lighten your grouchy mood about an uneventful school year. "Hey! You still going right? To the fight?"

"Of course. Walk with me?" You and your friend skirted around people as the two of you made it to the front doors of the schools. You had a smile on your face but as soon as you stepped outside and didn't see two buff boys beating each other up it fell. Scanning the area around the sentimental tree all you found was a guy leaning against it.

Your friend and you walked over to the oak tree and waited in the shade of the long branches for anyone to show up, but no one came. All the students had dispersed from the school grounds and that left you, your friend, and the guy who had now taken a seat next to the truck of the tree behind you. You sighed in annoyance as your friend started laughing lightly, making you confused.

"Why are you laughing? I just missed the bus and I have to walk home. I can't believe you!" You cried, giving your friend a push with your arm. Even after you yelled at your friend they were still giggling like a little child. "What's so funny?"

"There was no fight. I got you to stay after because Joseph wanted to ask you out." Your friend whispered the last part as you looked to them, still confused as ever. What you didn't see was the guy who sat against the tree get up and walk over to you. "I'll let you two talk. Peace!"

"Wait! I need a ride! Don't... leave." It was too late as your friend sprinted off to the car lot and left you with the guy. You heard him clear his throat as you turned to look at him, recognising him as the senior boy Joseph. He had rosy pink cheeks and a bead of sweat rolling down his temple as his hands were rung in front of him. You had always heard from fellow junior students that he was the cutest boy in the senior class. "Hi, Joseph."

"Hey. I-I can give you a ride if you don't mind. I mean... if you'd like." You said you wouldn't mind and the two of you walked off to his car in silence until he started talking once his vehicle was in sight. "So your friend is real nice. They, um, they said great things about you."

"Okay, I don't want to babble about but did my friend put you up to this? Did they make you ask me out?"

"No! No! I, no, I wanted to ask you out... for the longest time actually," Joe said sheepishly as the two of you reached the car. You stood outside the passenger door as he rubbed the back of his neck nervously from the other side of the car."I was wondering if you'd like to go out sometime, with me. Get to know you a little better."

"Yes, uh, yeah, I'd love that." You couldn't believe that the most talked about guy amongst the junior class wanted to take you out on a date. And now, as you look back at the whole conversation, you couldn't believe that he actually likes you enough to ask you out.
