Hello, Good morning!  Let's go, let's ride. Hello, Good morning. Hello, Good morning. Know you've been waitin-

Alison slammed her hand on her clock, turning the alarm off. She was definitely not a morning person. It was still dark outside at 7:30 am as it mostly was during winter up here. She dragged herself out of bed and into her attached bathroom. Fifteen minutes later, she had washed herself, brushed, and was down for breakfast. She walked into the kitchen to see her mother, Hope, making pancakes. It was a Friday, and Hope only worked Monday to Thursday.

"Morning sweetie," Alison's mother chirped happily, "how did you sleep?" Her mother was definitely a morning person, as was the rest of her family. Alison was always the odd-one-out. She had purple eyes, whereas the rest of them had ocean blue eyes. Her hair was a light brown, but her family had blond hair. She had thought about it before, but only briefly. This was her family, it had to be! Alison had seen pictures of herself, when she was born in a hospital in Lockport, New York. When she was younger, she'd pretend she was a secret princess, who'd been hidden in this family to save her life, but as she got older she left that idea behind.

Her family lived in the northern parts of the United States of America, merely half an hour from Canada, yet not once had they been. The furthest they'd ever travelled was to Rochester, and even that was only about an hour away. If Alison even mentioned wanting to go further, her father seemed to visibly panic, so she kept that idea to herself. Well... most of the time.

"Fine," Alison answered tiredly. "Where is everyone else," she asked looking at the empty kitchen table as she made herself some coffee.

"Well, your father left early this morning and Emily's not feeling too well, so she's still in bed," Hope said absentmindedly.

Of course he did. When is he ever home? She thought to herself, but knew better than to say that out loud to her mother. Alison remembered the happier days. They weren't too long ago, but in the last two years, it seemed that her father slowly had less time to spend with them.

"Oh, well I only have twenty minutes before Adam comes to pick me up," Alison told her mother as Hope placed chocolate chip pancakes in front of her.

"Do you have plans this weekend?" her mom asked, as she stirred in the pot on the stove.

"Jessie said she might be going to the mall tomorrow and I was thinking I'd go too," she responded before quickly taking another bit and washing it down with her coffee, "She wants to get some last minute shopping done. Winter break starts on Wednesday and they're leaving for vacation on Thursday."

"What about homework and didn't you have a math exam you need to study for?" Hope questioned back sternly.

"Come on Mom, you know me better than that!" She rolled her eyes, "My exam is today and I have an essay and a lab report due by Tuesday, but I'm done both and I'll let you know how math goes."

"Good girl," Hope smiled, "I was only asking because I was thinking about going to Grandpa's tonight and I was wondering if you want to come too! Emily, your dad and I were going to stay over until Sunday, and I have to take Emily anyway." Alison's grandpa was a retired primary care physician, so whenever they needed medical advice, they'd take a trip to Rochester to see him. "We don't want you home alone, so we need to figure something out," she continued, "Maybe you can postpone this shopping trip to Sunday, and we'll come back early, or-"

"No, mom don't worry about me," Alison interrupted, "I can stay over at Jessie's!" Alison quickly downed her remaining coffee, and leapt out of her seat, "I'll ask her today!" Finishing the conversation, Alison ran back upstairs to get dressed for school. After scavenging through her closet for skinny jeans and an oversized sweatshirt, Alison quickly threw on some mascara and lipgloss and grabbed a pair of socks trying to put them on as she hopped her way out of her room. She pulled her long, naturally straight hair over one shoulder and tossed her backpack over the other on the way to her see her sister.
