Ashton stood behind Alison protectively as she called her family. He had told her she only had ten minutes then they would grab some food and leave. While she was in the hospital, Ashton had gotten a fake id for both of them, and now he had to convince her die her hair. He knew that wouldn’t go to well.

Ashton had caught the very end of the conversation, “…don’t worry! I love you, but I have to go… I’ll be fine… I can’t promise that, I might not be able to call, but I will try… Okay, tell Emily I love her, bye mom,” she was saying.

Ashton felt very bad. He had to take her away from her family. It almost hurt Ashton to watch her cry in the car earlier. Almost

“Okay, so what now?” Alison said.

“Well we’re going to get some food now and then go back to driving! There’s a grocery store two shops down, let’s go. You can grab anything you like, okay?” Ashton told her.

“Okay, you have money?”

“Yep, don’t worry about that, we are good for a while.”

Ashton put his hand onto her elbow and guided her towards the store. He watched as she grabbed handfuls of food. Ashton hadn’t realised how hungry she was and how long it had been since she had eaten.

He paid for the food from the money he had from his last assignment. He had to get a job for that assignment and he had to keep it for two years. He had quite a lot of money on him.

Ashton helped Alison back into the car and they drove off. “So, you said your my guardian Angel, how did I get hurt?” Alison asked suddenly.

Ashton was actually scared. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t want to tell her it was his fault. He didn’t want to tell her that he failed. “Well, I got you to the hospital in time, so you survived.” Ashton looked at her and noticed that she didn’t look convinced. Luckily, she didn’t question it further.

“Okay. Umm… so what happens when Guardian Angels fail?” she asked.

“Well, then they get a punishment,” he stated.

“What punishment? Who gives it?”

“The punishment depends on the failure. If an angel’s assignment gets hurt emotionally, the angel gets a smaller punishment, in comparison to an angel whose assignment was killed. Obviously the great Tanakh herself gives the punishment. Well actually, sometimes, for the smaller crimes, Harold gives the punishment.”

“Harold?”

“Oh, he’s Tanakh’s second in command.”

So Tanakh’s the most powerful, and then Harold?”

“Well, Tanakh’s the most powerful, yes. But then there’s Adaggon. Then there is Harold and Ardon. Ardon is Adaggon’s second in command.”

“So what if the angel doesn’t accept the punishment?” Alison inquired.

“They have no choice. Tanakh knows everything. She is never unfair.”

“Are guardian angels only male?”

Ashton chuckled, “no, there are females too.”

“How do they kick the bad guy asses then?” she asked confused.

Ashton glanced at her. He thought she looked adorable so confused. He laughed, “They are not human. Firstly they are angels. Secondly they get trained. Oh, and did I mention they are angels?”

Ashton saw a low blush cover Alison’s cheeks. “Didn’t have to be so rude about it,” she accused. Ashton just laughed. “Okay! Topic change,” Alison declared.

Ashton asked Alison all kinds of questions and they talked a good four hours before Alison fell asleep. Ashton continued to drive. Five hours later, he realised how uncomfortable Alison must be. He pulled into the closest motel to rent a room. He wouldn’t be sleeping anyway. Ashton walked to the front desk and asked for a room.

“We have a single-bed room for $20 for tonight,” he man informed. He thought about it but decided to get a bigger bed for her.

“Oh no, I need a room for my, err... wife and I,” Ashton told the man.

“Okay then that’s room 56 down the hallway to the right. $50 dollars for that,” the man asked Ashton to sign and gave him the key.

Ashton went out to the car to wake Alison up and bring her back in. He opened her door and unbuckled her seatbelt. Ashton watched Alison’s face, but didn’t have the heart to wake her up. Instead, he lifted her bridal style, and carried her into the room. What is happening to me, he thought to himself.
