우린 결국엔 안돼.
그래도 계속 바래.
in the end, we can't make it.
even so, i keep hoping.

"you know, sometimes you don't even seem real," jungkook sighed his confession, taking his hand that was combing languidly through the blue locks and cascading it downwards to cup the porcelain skin of the cheeks. you could say that his newfound brazenness was the result of the high from the adrenaline of the night's events still lingering in his veins even in the early morning. "you seem like a dream."

she stilled in his arms, her warm breath on his neck the only reassurance that she was alive. the oblivious boy had time only to cast his eyes downwards before she broke the increasingly suspenseful silence with a breathy laugh. it sounded off, contemptuous even. to who or what it was directed towards, he had no idea.

she only mumbled a simple, "you're mad," tone undefinable.

jungkook frowned, trying to twist himself under the covers so that he could gaze upon her freely, but no luck. "what?" he inquired confusedly. of course he'd already come to accept the terms of his own insanity, but he found it unsettling how she was only bringing it up now. "how am i mad?" his gaze silently pleaded that she'd elaborate as she rose like a zombie from the grave, meeting it.

and in that same dead tone, she did.

"'you would have to be half mad to dream me up'," was all the hint she'd offer.

"hm," he pondered, pretending to consider it as a new theory as his arm rested contently behind his neck. "then maybe that's why this works. because even if we're both deluded, i never want to leave. i never want to leave this place."

"and why is that? there are many places more wonderful than here," she placed her chin on the palm of her hand just as a burst of light through the lace curtain threw geometric patterns across her ivory skin, making the mesmerized boy's heart leap with wonder at her sheer, natural, not-even-trying beauty. what was most curious to him, though, was why she felt she even had to ask.

"but none of them have you."

alice snorted as her face twisted in amusement at his cheesy remark, eventually braking out into a fit of giggles.

jungkook's face heated up rapidly. "hey! it's true!" he whined.

when her laughter had slowly subdued to a small smile, her eyes glazed over once more. "jungkook, there are much better things out there than this, and... i want you to see them all."

"come with me, then," he immediately resolved. "if i have to leave my first home in years, leave wonderland... at least come with me." he sighed as the tone suddenly got somber again, tucking a flyaway hair back behind her ear so that he could better see her face. "i never want to leave you."

she pouted in a tantalizing way as she feigned thoughtfulness. "you won't have to... the fairies said we have forever together."

"when did they say that?" he tilted his head to the side.

"i heard them sing it at the waterfall."

jungkook thought it over for a moment, but, even though he might be insane, there was no escape from he lingering fact that there was really no such thing as forever. "how long is forever?" he asked carefully.

her answer was as simply ambiguos as ever. "'sometimes, just one second.'"

he mulled it over another time, his thoughts thirsty for more, some sort of consolation he doubted would come. "then, for a moment, let's consider forever. what exactly does it mean? what does it look like?"
