"Welcoming the Boy from 2. Cato Larker! And the Girl with the knives. Clove Sevina!" Shouts Caesar Flickerman. I walk out of my house and into the bitter cold atmosphere. I see Cato walking out and down the stairs. I look like puff ball. And he looks fine. We stand next to each other. He doesn't want anyone else to know about 'us' until out games are out of the way and everything is settled. When we are out of the way. Maybe after the victor of next years games. I don't know. It's not a set plan yet.
"So. This is just the first leg of a very exciting tour for the both of you Isn't it?!" Caesar shouts. I look to Cato. I don't want to talk. And he's good at it
"Yes. We are both very excited. We can't wait to see the districts and meet the people of Panem"
"Good to hear! Now we don't want to keep you waiting but. Clove tell us. What district are you most looking forward to seeing?" Asks Caesar, what a random question
"All. I can't pick a favourite Caesar" I laugh. I don't really want to see any of them
"Well. We will see you soon in the capitol" Caesar tells us. The cameras go off
"Cato. I don't want to go to the districts"
"Clove. You know we have too. But to be honest. I don't want too either. Remember I'm going to be here to hold your hand if you need it. And on the train. You won't be fair away. It just depends on what Gabriel says about us. You know what she was like in the capitol" he laughs. I remember like it was yesterday. In all fairness. I can see how he wouldn't want us sleeping together. A girl did get pregnant one year. And her district partner was the father. It was a sick year. A cannibal almost won the games. I shake the thoughts from my head
"Come on we better get the train. I want to settle in first" Cato tells me. We both walk hand in hand to the train. Gabriel is already on the train. He is doing his make up. Really? Still. When we left him we had a powder brush in his hands. He wheres more make up than I do.
"Cato! Clove! How are my Fab-o Victors?!" Gabriel stands and offers us a hug. Cato shakes his hand and he still wants to hug me. I might as well. I almost suffocate in his stench Of what he calls stent-de Capitól. I call it. Stench.
"Hi Gabe. We are fine" says Cato. I'm still gripping into his hand. I'm slightly hiding behind his arm. His being a lot taller than me. I can just about hide my face behind his shoulder without anyone noticing. He's also older than me. So it's not not unnatural for him to be taller than me.
"So. Is there anything I can do for you?" He asks. He stands in his pale pink suit with matching pink shoes acting like he owes us. His hair is longer than last time. It's now shoulder length. Why is the 'fashionable?'
"Could you show us to our room?" Asks Cato. Gabriel stands there disgusted. My face lowers with the dread of having to cope with nightmares on my own.
"Cato. Clove. It's true. I ship you two. But rules are rules. Clove is 15 and you are 18. I cannot accept it. I let it go in the capitol because I thought you were going to die and it wouldn't matter. But now. No I'm sorry separate rooms Cato. When clove is 16 then yes of course. But she's 15. You rooms are right next to each other. If one of you does want to be with the other. Feel free to come and sit on the couch. Okay. Just along there" Cato's face drops and he looks down to me. I look to him and we both walk to our rooms. I am going to have to be on my own. It's not fair. I don't have anyone who understands. Every game is different. But every victor has their own struggles. Most are nightmares. Rare ones are developing shell shock as they used to all it. Or post traumatic stress, we are lucky.
"Thanks Gabe!" Shouts Cato "are we allowed to sit in each other's rooms?" He asks. Sticking his head out the side of the door frame. Gabe is one of the few capitol people who know about Cato and I. But that's only because we weren't cautious enough.
"Of course. No reason why not" Gabriel replies. He sits back down after throwing his hands in the air from giving in. I smile
"Thank you" I say before being pulled into Catos room. He pulls me into him and I hug him
"If you need me. Just knock. And we can go onto the couch" he smiles. We walk whilst hugging. I trust him. Into not like we are going to fall out a window. But we might trip over a bed. I now lie on his chest. I place my hands either side of him on the ground and push myself up. My hair flows down one side of my head and just about going down the side of his. He blows it. As of acting like it was in his way. I laugh and smile.
"You look funny like this" I tell him
"You don't look so hot yourself" he replies. We both laugh he puts his hands on my hips and try's to get up. But pushes me onto my side
"Hey. Have said not in the same bed. He didn't say not to be on the floor together" Cato tells me. I laugh. He leans in a puts his head on mine and closes his eyes.
"Come on. Up you get" he says. He stands up. I'm still on my side. He reaches out his hands to help me up. I take them and I'm back on my feet again. He backs away from me. Letting lose my hands and sits on the bed
"You gonna sit?" He asks. I jump and sit next to him. He turns on the tv. There are replays of the games. I turn my head away and into Cato's side. He can't stop looking
"Cato. Turn it off! Cato! Please" I shout. He is out. He can't hear me. He is in shock "Cato! Please listen to me! Cato please" I shout. He is just looking at the screen. My eyes are filling with tears. I pull my self out of his side and grab the remote from him "cato! Please listen to me! You okay. Your not there anymore! Okay?" I say. I grab his face and stand leaning over him. He still sits on the bed. His eyes are in tears
"Clove" he Says
"Cato" I reply and he pulls me into him. We are both in tears. "It's okay. Your with me" I tell him
"I'm okay. Your okay. We are both safe now" he says. I don't like It when this happens. It's the first time. I wish it was the last.
