I cannot sleep. The argument earlier this day keeps replaying itself in my mind just like all the possible things I could have done to change the situation.

The boys stayed a bit longer after Yoongi stormed off in an effort to try and give me some peace of mind. By making small talk they hoped to move on from the drama, but I could not help but keep wondering what I could do about the circumstances.

One of the perks of social anxiety: your thoughts never leave you alone.

The screen of my phone lights up, the notice of a newly received message showing on the display. Looking at a blue light before going to sleep is bad for you, although it does not matter tonight since I expect to not catch much sleep anyway. I grab the phone to see what my mystic messenger, who appears to be Taehyung, has sent.

We all exchanged numbers on Hoseok's request, so I would be a true member of the Bangtan crew. At first, I was against it, said they would not have to bother. Yet they insisted and were not taking no for answer. Hence I ended up with the numbers of the other six men.

Perhaps it is better that Amanda does not find out about it for a while because God knows she will not leave me alone before she has heard the long and the short of it.

'Hey, are you still awake?' Looks like I am not the only one who is still up during these nightly hours.

'Yeah, I am. Can't sleep,' I answer.

'Something on the mind?' He may look blank at times, but he sure does know when someone is struggling.

'I guess you can say that.' I do not want to give him too many details. Tae does not have to hear my problems, it would just be a hassle.

'Want to tell me? As a friend? We are friends, right? Now I am beginning to doubt myself...'

Tae and I got along really well after I gathered enough courage and made conversation with him. Instantly I had the feeling he is a genuine and kind of odd guy. He is not like everyone else and maybe that is why I adore him.

'We are friends, don't you worry about that. Just thinking about what happened.'

'With Yoongi?' Those two words cause me to sigh and cast my gaze upwards toward the ceiling for a moment. I got busted, there is no point in lying.

'Yes. I hope he's alright. Namjoon said he could do something he might regret later. I wonder what he meant by that and if he is safe.'

'Well, he is fine. Namjoon hyung handled it. Only he does not seem to want to talk about it nor about you. Concerning that "something", he has done some bad things in the past that caused some damage.' Considering the tone of the reply, I think I do not want to ask any further questions about it.

I am tempted to message Yoongi now that I have his number, thanks to Hoseok, but what Taehyung said prevents me from actually doing so.

A sigh and a glance out the window, where the moon is shining brightly in the black sky that is adorned with hundreds of stars. Briefly, I can swear I hear a wolf howling, which is not logical if one remembers this is the heart of the city.

The same savage melody can be heard again.

What is going on? Am I going mad? There is no way this noise is truly outside.

'Tae, I hear something.'

'Huh? What do you mean? What do you hear?'

'I know this is going to sound really silly, but I trust you won't judge me. Call me crazy, but I hear a wolf howling.'

'Scarlet, don't you think it's just your imagination? You're tired, get some sleep.'

'Perhaps I am,' I answer. Of course, he is right, I am imagining it. However, I cannot shake this funny mixture of curiosity and unease off of me.

But not now.

After getting out of bed, I walk to the window and regard the city in the dark, barely illuminated by the street lights which cast light yellow circles on the grey concrete of the pavement. Recently, I redid the set-up of the bedroom and moved the bed to the other side of the space. It feels bigger now.

A shape moves on the sidewalk, a non-human thing with bright amber-coloured orbs. Clear yet warm eyes stare up and give the impression they are turned to me as if it knows me. Surprised, I take a step back.

It is a wolf, an actual wolf. It has a fur which consists of various shades of brown and looks incredibly fluffy. Momentarily it seems to grin, which slightly reminds me of Hoseok's sunny smile. Nevertheless, that would be impossible, he is a human and this is an animal.

Hoseok is real, this beast cannot be. This is the city, the forest is nowhere nearby.

I pinch my arm and rub my eyes, but when I look down again it is still there. I text Taehyung, the only one who I can talk to now to get this insane-making feeling of my chest. 'Tae, there really is a wolf here. It is outside and watches me. I already rubbed my eyes and pinched my arm. However, it is still there, so that means I am not dreaming, right? I must be losing my mind.' Unrest begins to stir, even though I am completely safe up here.

A buzz tells me he answered. 'You're not going insane. Don't look at it and go to sleep. It cannot do anything to you.'

Easier said than done, because the beast fascinates me and takes every form of exhaustion away. How did it end up here?

I am about to go back to bed when a whiny sound rises from the streets. I rush back to the window and look down. Despite the darkness, I see a wolf which is as white as snow approach the other. This one's fur almost seems to glow in the moonlight. A giant black wolf joins the new stranger. The animal is taller than the other two but does not differ more than a few centimetres with the brown wolf.

The white wolf bares its fangs that look like sharp knives and is about to attack the brown wolf. Yet the black one interrupts him. It looks the aggressive beast sternly in the eyes, causing him to back down with an annoyed expression.

The great creature turns to face the other, breaching the distance between them whilst growling. With dangerous-looking icy blue eyes, that almost seem to be able to freeze any who into them, he locks gazes with the amber eyes.

This might turn into a fight and there is nothing I can do to prevent it. Perhaps that is for the better because playing referee for angry wolves does not have a high a place on my bucket list.

Another wolf enters the scene. It is cream-coloured and has spots here and there in its fur that are darker. The eyes of the newcomer are a lighter shade of brown, reminiscent of caramel. In spite of the tension, it appears to be calm and acts as some kind of negotiator. The intimidating black and white wolf both retreat and the new face turns to the remaining attendee. With a gesture of its head, the peace bringer gestures for it to follow. They leave and everything returns back to normal.

Still, I will not forget what just happened.

They were not hallucinations, so perhaps I am not going mad.

Not yet, at least.

What the frick happened and where did they come from?
