"I love you."
The words build up here
On the tip of my tongue
Like water against a dam
The pressure threatens to rush out
Wanting to be said
Overwhelm my dread
Flow from my tongue
...
Even though you're gone
I remember the first time I said it
You probably didn't believe me
I remember the first time you did too
You were scared and likely thought yourself a fool
I was speechless
Yet wanted to say something cool
Now I'm speechless
Because I can't say those words again to you
I wish I knew another way to say
"I love you."
Because it's still so true
And I want to say it more to you
