Chapter 1 - First Meeting

It is the first day of school, I am currently a third year student. It is my third year in this school and naturally, I know almost everyone.

"Hello Teacher Nhong, good morning!"

"Oh Maymay, good morning. How was summer?" Nhong replied

"It was good, the usual. I went to my mother's province for a vacation. It was fun and different. The people in their province knew almost everyone. So in a matter of hours, they all knew that the granddaughter of the Entrata's is in town. They had organized a welcome party and I was introduced to plenty of people...and...and I met someone.. someone, special...and now I realized I am talking too much Cher Nhong.. Oopsie"

"Oh Maymay, two months and nothing has changed. But go on, you caught my attention with this someone special, tell me more" Nhong said with the biggest smile on her face

"Hala, Cher Nhong. This someone is really special because in a matter of two months, we became the best of friends. He told me about his life and how he also just came to mom's province two days before I got there and almost got the same welcome I did. I remember him saying "Oh My God Maymay, I came at 3AM and slept, when I woke up, everybody knew that the Barber's grandson is in town. I went downstairs and saw plenty of people with food, fruits, and vegetables as their welcome gift for me....."

Maymay was suddenly stopped by the announcement from the principal

"ALL staff and students, please proceed to the main hall"

"Oh.. I will tell more of this later Cher Nhong. For now, let us begin the school year!"

They both then proceeded to the main hall. As they walked, she was greeted with many "hello's" "how are you?'s" and "long time, no see" from almost everyone.

Divine School is a private school located in Pampanga. It is a small school and a class has a maximum of 20 people. This way the teacher can focus on all 20 students and make sure that they learn and understand everything. Since it has a small population, students from Grade 1 to 4th year know each other. Since this is the case, only the new students are being ask to introduce themselves on stage in the beginning of the school year. The new students are now in a room and are currently waiting to be called on stage.

I was VP in the student council last year, and the president already graduated. Naturally, I became the acting president until election starts next month. As president, I took the microphone on stage and made an announcement.

"Good morning everybody. Today is the beginning of the school year 2016-2017. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Maymay Entrata. And for those of you who know me, my name is still Maymay Entrata". This gathered laughs from both students and staff in the main hall. "Ehem! so now, let's make sure that this year our school will be a great place to build relationships, mend old ones, and off course, LEARNING. To begin, let me call all the new students to go on the left side of the stage so they can introduce themselves to us. This year we have 7 new students, and they are all in third year, my year! WELCOME" I passed the microphone to the first student after the applause from all the students.

"Good morning, my name is Kisses. I am a junior student. "

"Hello, I am Heaven. Also, a junior"

"Hi, I am Kristine. Third year"

"Hi, I am Yong. Third year student"

"My name is Christian. Also, a third year student"

"I am Marco. Third year"

"Hello, I am Edward John. I am also a third year student'

When Edward spoke, it caught Maymay's attention because the voice sounded familiar. She then started mumbling to herself "No, no, no. He cannot be here. We went our separate ways after summer" But as she looked up the stage, it is indeed him. He looked her way and was also surprised to see her there. She smiled at him and wave a little. She was at awe and wants an explanation right away.

The principal then went on stage and announced, "Welcome everyone, both to the new and old faces. Third years, you may now go in line with your fellow juniors so we can proceed with the morning prayers and exercise"

We then all went in line, and I kept looking at Edward with questioning eyes. We cannot talk though so I have to wait until we get in the classroom. I can feel him looking at me, probably with the same questions running through his mind. So, I just looked back and smiled at him.

After the morning exercise, we went to the classroom. The new students had to get their bags from the room they were in first. I waited for them at the door, and finally. Here he is, "Hey!" we both said at the same time and hugged each other.

"You have a lot of explaining to do Edward John. I honestly thought that the next time we will see each other is next summer. How come you are here?"

"Well, Maymay.. remember I told you that my family is having issues. My parents have decided to separate for now just to have some perspective and such. So I stayed with Mom, while Laura is with Dad. Mom was sent here for work, and this is the nearest school. Come to think of it, two months of summer and not once did we talk about school" Edward explained

Maymay laughed at that. "Off course, when it is summer, school is out of my head. I am just so surprise to see you here..."

Their conversation was stopped as their adviser walked in.

"Good morning class. Please be seated. My name is Anna. You can call me Teacher Anna. Please do not call me Ma'am. For all of you who are new, it is a practice here in Divine that we are called Teacher because Ma'am makes us sound old. So, welcome and I hope we have a great school year together. Okay, so new students, you make pick your seats. I am not really strict on rules but I do demand one thing, respect. Respect me and respect each other"

"Yes Teacher Anna." Everyone replied as they take their seats in class. Edward sat beside me as we already know each other.

"This will be an interesting school year, that's for sure" Maymay thought.
