Chapter 5 - Campaign and Election

The next day, everyone found out about the two parties competing for the student council. As mentioned earlier, Edward and I are against each other for the Vice President position. Heaven is in Edward's party as their secretary and ours is Kisses. The president for both parties are both senior students, ours is Cora and theirs is Tanner. The rest of the parties are sophomores and freshmen.

The next few days have been very busy with the campaign(the afternoon meetings, recess meet-ups, and sometimes, before school meetings.) Due to this, Kisses and I became really close. She told me about her life. Her family owns the big house in the next subdivision. She transferred in Divine School because she was bullied in her previous school. She told me that everybody made fun of her because she has very pale skin. To this, I told her that her skin is one of her best asset. Most Filipino boys like girls who are light skin.

I barely saw Edward in the passed weeks since we were both busy with school. Due to the election, the candidates were mostly excused from class so that they can prepare for their campaign. They went from classroom to classroom to introduce themselves and state their platforms. Also, they were there to entertain any questions their fellow students may have.

When my party got in our very own classroom, we did the usual. We introduced each one of us and which position we were running for and our platforms. When it was time for the questions, I received a very unexpected question from Christian, "Maymay, we all know you and Edward are against each other for the VP position, being bestfriends, how will you handle that?"

I was surprised by Christian's question, so I answered with "What do you mean?"

"I mean, sometimes when you guys are talking I hear you guys nonchalantly saying, and I quote, "I will vote for you twin", does this mean you don't believe that you, yourself deserves to be the vice president?"

So many things were running through my head at that time such as "Wow, Christian is really one heck of a guy to be questioning my confidence. It is obvious that he is new" I thought. "Ehem, first of all, I know that Edward and I are against each other" I said as I look at Edward. "It is also true that we agreed to vote for each other. This way he has my vote as I have his. This does not mean that I do not believe in myself or that I do not deserve to be your VP. This simply means that Edward and I believe in each other's abilities and we both know that whoever wins will do a great job as VP. After all, that is what bestfriends are for, to constantly have each other's back and push each other to the best of their abilities." I finished with a smile and I saw Edward smiling back at me with a thumbs up.

"Now, is there any other questions that we can answer from you guys?" I asked. I was answered with silence from my classmates, so I continued with "Thank you. Please support each one of us" We then headed out of the classroom and I finally let out a big sigh. Wow.

As we were walking, Cora grabbed my hand and said "Maymay, we have to talk" and to this I said "Uh-oh, okay".

She pulled me to the side and said "Is that true? You are my VP and you are voting Edward? Your competitor?"

I confidently answered her with "Yes. I am voting for him and he is voting for me. This way it is like we are voting for ourselves. We are still supporting each other"

Cora laughed mockingly and said, "How are you so sure that he will actually vote for you? People are selfish in their own way Maymay, that is human nature"

"Well, you may think that way, but I trust my bestfriend. Thank you for your concern though" I answered

"Just letting you know, think wisely Maymay. It could be that one vote that can make you win or lose" she says as she walked away.
