Chapter 40: Daffy

Sumama kami ni baby Empress sa pag-sundo sa papa niya. Habang lumalaki ay mas nagiging kamukha niya ang papa niya. She's so beautiful. Abuela was supposed to come with us, but she got tired from the party that she attended the night before. Ipinahiram ako ng driver ni kuya. Isinama ko na rin si Anna at ang nurse ni baby Empress. 

Isang mahigpit na yakap ang ibinigay sa akin ni Zeck. He buried his face in my neck and kissed me there.

"God. I missed you so much. You and Empress." he muttered.

"We missed you, too."

Bumaling ang tingin niya kay Empress na karga ng nurse. Maingat niyang kinuha ang anak. She told our little Empress how much he had missed her like she could understand. Magkatabi kaming umupo ni Zeck sa loob ng van. 

"Sina Vash pala, baby? I didn't see them."

"They're still in the States. I just went home ahead of them."

"Why?"

"I missed you and Empress so much it nearly drove me crazy."

Kinikilig na yumakap ako sa kanya at pinugpog siya ng halik sa buong mukha. He chuckled while he was holding out baby. Malapit na kami ng pumalahaw ng iyak si Empress. 

"Why is she crying? Is she okay?" he asked, looking so worried. 

I almost laughed. "Baby, she's okay. Just hungry."

"Are you sure?"

I rolled my eyes. "Positive. Give her to me."

Isinuot ko muna ang pantakip ko para ma-breastfeed ko na si Empress. Kahit maayos naman ang pagkakalagay ko ay sinugarado muna ni Zeck na hindi ako makikitaan. When we got home, he played with our daughter. Hindi niya alintana ang pagod. 

"Baby, has Inaki come up with a unique proposal? tanong ko kinagabihan habang magka-yakap na kaming nakahiga sa kama.

He sighed. "There will be no proposal, baby."

"What!" Bigla akong napa-bangon. "What do you mean there'll be no proposal?"

"I was so sure that he was gonna propose, but something made him change his mind," seryosong sabi niya. "Good thing, you didn't tell Raigne about it. Or else she would've been heartbroken."

Nanlamig ang mga kamay ko. I wanted to tell him what I did, but I couldn't bring myself to do so for fear that he'd get mad at me. Kababalik lang niya. Ayoko namang mag-away kami dahil doon. Hindi ako naka-tulog ng maayos sa kakaisip.

Zeck took me to one of their gigs. Si Empress ay naiwan sa kanyang nurse. Hindi maipinta ang mukha na akma kong aabutin ang pinacolada na inilapag ng waiter sa tapat ko, pero may umagaw bago ko pa mahawakan. It was none other than my husband. 

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he asked with a knotted forehead.

"Just one?"

"No. You're breastfeeding. You can't drink alcohol. Baby naman. Be more careful."

I bit my lower lip. "Sorry."

How could I forget about our little one who drinks milk from me? He ordered juice for me. Hindi ko maialis ang tingin ko kay Inaki at sa kasama niyang babae na hindi ko kilala. But they were such a sore in the eyes! They had been flirting since they got here, and it was pissing me off big time!
