~ This is to when Mike and the reader are going to Kindergarten ~

~ Mike's P.O.V. ~

I gently held onto Mommy's hand as we walked through the parking lot. Today was my very first day of school! Mommy said I while I was here, I could make more friends, too, but I know I'll always like being friends with (y/n) more than anyone else. My eyes traveled around, full of excitement as we got closer to school. Then I saw (y/n) by the school doors. I cried out her name and quickly ran to her.

"Mikey! Mikey!" I hugged her. One day I heard (y/n)'s mom say to Mommy that this is all (y/n) can say:  Mike, Mikey, and sometimes mom. I don't know why (y/n) can only say those words though, her mom had whispered that part, but I didn't care. No matter what she is my bestest friend in the whole wide world! And the world is a very big place.

Mommy caught up with me soon enough and I held her and (y/n)'s hand. Mommy said we were waiting for the doors to open so we could meet our teachers and find our desks. I'm excited for school, whatever it is supposed to be like. Soon, the doors were open and I started pulling Mommy and (y/n) with me.

"Okay, okay Michael, come down." Mommy said with a laugh and I slowed down, just a little.

The desks were in groups of two and I sat at my desk with (y/n) across from me.  Our teacher got up from her desk and walked to the front of the room. She had short brown hair and a pink dress with black heels.

"Good morning class! I am Ms. Les Are you excited for your first day?" Many kids shouted in response, all agreeing. Even I joined in the yells as I smiled, looking at (y/n). She nodded, sharing a smile with me. "So for our first day, why don't we all get to know one another? You just tell us your name and then something interesting about yourself. We'll start here." She pointed at a girl with blonde hair, "And then we'll go around the room from there, okay?" Again, another chorus of agreements rang out and then we started. Soon, the line of introductions came to me and I stood.

"My name is Mike, short for Michael. and my bestest friend in the whole wide world is (y/n)!" I said, pointing at her with a smile, and then I sat down. Ms. Les nodded.

"Okay, good Michael. Your turn, (y/n)." (y/n)'s eyes widened and she looked at me. "Go on, stand up." Ms. Les said and she did, slowly. "Tell us your name and something interesting about yourself." (y/n) bit her lip and looked down at her hands. I frowned as (y/n) tried to sign that she couldn't talk, but I knew she struggled with remembering some of the movements and she had barely started learning sign language herself. I looked to Ms. Les.

"She can't." I said firmly. "(y/n) can't talk, but I can introduce her." Ms. Les's eyebrows furrowed.

"What?"

"I said she isn't able to talk, but that's okay, because I can help introduce her." Some of the kids around us began to laugh and I frowned, looking at them.

"She can't talk?" The blonde head girl said with a giggle. Ms. Les shook her head.

"Calm down guys." Ms. Les tried to call over the rest of the class, but no one stopped, and (y/n) pushed from her desk and ran from the classroom, barely giving me a second look. The broken and helpless expression she had given me made me sad, then angry, so then I stood too, squinting my eyes as I stared at everyone else.

"Stop laughing! Just because someone can't do something that you can doesn't mean you need to laugh! You're all just a bunch of big bullies!" The laughter stopped and the kids stared at me, but I didn't care. I turned from my seat, ignoring Ms. Les as I went and ran after (y/n). I got a glimpse of her turning into the girls' restroom, and I followed, looking around to make sure no one could see me as I slipped through the door. I usually wasn't allowed in here, but I think since (y/n) was hurt and sad, that it was okay.

"(y/n)?" I called softly. I heard her sniffles but she said nothing. "It's just me, Mikey, I promise." I heard a stall door unlock, then her (e/c) eyes peeked through the crack.

"Mikey..." I saw the tears in her eyes and I frowned.

"Let me in, please." She opened the stall more and I walked in and hugged her. (y/n) rubbed at her face, continuing to cry as we stood there. She moved her hands, trying to tell me something, but then she gave up, crying harder. I sighed, feeling confusion and hurt settle over me as she cried, then I moved forward, hugging (y/n) close to me. She whispered my name again and I held her closer. "It's okay, it's all okay."

~

I checked my watch again, seeing that now it said 3 1 5, which Mommy told me meant the school day was over. Only once did someone look for us, but when they did, we crawled onto the bars on the stall wall after quietly relocking the stall door, and then the person left. (y/n) had stopped crying long ago, but she was too scared to go back, and if staying here made her feel better, then that was okay with me.

"Hey, school is over. We should go get our stuff." (y/n) nodded as I got up, then I helped her up as well. We snuck back to the classroom to see our class had already left, but the door was open, so we got our stuff and followed another class out the door. Almost immediately after we exited the school, I saw Mommy coming to pick us up. I ran toward her before Ms. Les could see us, dragging (y/n) with me. "Hi Mommy." I said quickly as I marched to the car. Mommy smiled at me, but then it fell when I passed her.

"Michael?" I reached the car, opening the door for (y/n).

"Let's go home Mommy." I climbed into the car after (y/n) and closed the door behind me. Mommy also came to the car, seeming confused as she glanced at us in her mirror, then she pulled away from the school.

The car ride was silent. I held (y/n)'s hand the whole time. No questions were asked and no answers were given. I looked at (y/n). Her eyes were cast down and her hair had started to fall in her face. The frown was still stuck on her face, which made me frown again too. I squeezed her hand once, twice. I decided that now I'd always be there for her. That I'd always be her protector. I'd be her knight in shining armor.
