I went to Davina's room bright and early to thank her.

I knocked on the door and she opened it right up.

"Hey!"

I smiled ear to ear as I hugged her.

"Davina! You did it! I knew you could do it! Thanks so much!"

She pulled away and looked at me right in the eyes.

"That's what friends are for, aren't they?"

I blushed, happy to be called her friend.

"Yes. Friends look out for other friends."

Just then my phone rang.

"Sorry.  Just hold on one minute."

I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and looked to see who it was.

It was Elijah.

"Elijah what is it?"

"You need to come home right now. The witches are surrounding the house.  They know we broke the unlinking spell and they are angry with us and Sophie."

"Ok.  I'll be there soon."

I hung up and looked at Davina.

"Agnes and the other witches are at our house.  They're mad because we broke the unlinking spell.  I need to go.  I'll be back though."

Davina nodded.

"It should be me they're after."  She called to me as I left.

"I would probably be dead if they knew where I was."

I turned back around.

"I'm going to protect you ok? Always.  That's what friends are for."

                                                                                     *

I ran back to the house and saw Agnes and two other witches chanting some spell.

Elijah opened the door.

"Tessalynn!  Come inside quickly!"

I started to come towards Elijah but the witches blocked my way.

Suddenly angry and not thinking, I snapped all three of their necks.

Breathless, I looked up.

"My house, my rules."

                                                                                          *

I went back to Davina's.

When she opened the door, she was crying.

"What happened?  Is everything ok?"  I asked.

"I could feel them being killed.  Did you kill them?"

I nodded.

"I had to Davina.  They were threatening my family. I'm sorry."

"It's ok.  Really. But now the only problem is all of the other elders that prepare the harvest and the younger witches are going to look for the one that killed the three.  And they'll be looking for me more then ever.  Because they'll want to complete the harvest.  Which means I'll have to be killed."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

The other elders and witches completing the harvest?

No.  It couldn't be true.
