IF THERE’S ONE film that all Irish nineties kids loved, (and some modern kids too) it was War of the Buttons. The film tells the stories of two rival gangs of schoolboys in West Cork who enter into an epic battle that includes, among other things, running around in the nip, dancing in tables and hacking buttons off clothes. In other words, it was pretty much the ultimate midterm break movie

1) You always welcomed its presence in the RTÉ Guide ( praise Jesus, war of the buttons is on)

2) Because it was so wonderfully bold and included priceless quotes (His willy. Cut off his willy )

3) It made you want to start a war with the nearest housing estate ( In fact, it made you wish you grew up in 1960s Ireland. A more innocent time when your parents didn’t really seem to care what you got up to¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

4) most of idea were introduced to the concept of true love by Fergus and Marie ( Cutest couple ever.)

5) It stars lots of familiar faces ( Like Liam Cunningham. And Colm Meaney.)

6) As well as approximately 50% of the population of Cork ( Stat: 1 in 2 people from Cork starred in the War of the Buttons. That’s a fact.)

7) And it featured some excellent west cork accents ( The kind you don’t often hear in films. Unless it’s an American actor poorly attempting one, that is.)

8) It made buttons seem really cool ( Mam, can I get 1,000 buttons for Christmas, please? I want to start a war.)

9) And who forget the scene where they ran around ass naked? ( Best scene ever )

10) Best film ever to be honest.
