CHAPTER SIX

"YOU TWO ARE INSANE," DYLAN EXCLAIMED. "Are you two screwing with me? Is this some stupid inside joke I don't know about?"

Dustin shook his head rapidly. "No, swear. This is all real."

"Some other dimensional creature took Will Byers last year," Dylan said slowly, not believing a word. "And you're saying you kept one as a pet and now it's escaped and out for the kill."

She crossed her arms, narrowing her eyes at the kid, who was leaned in between the two front seats. "Nope, not buying it. I might be a bit of a ditz sometimes but I'm not an idiot."

"Why would I lie to you?" Dustin frowned.

"You're cute, kid." She said with a laugh. "But no amount of pouting is going to get me to believe you."

The three teens walked through the abandoned railway tracks, each with a pair of rubber gloves and a tub of raw meat. To say she was appalled was an understatement. If Dylan had known this was that random kids emergency, she would have made plans to get out of it.

"Don't you two think you're taking this a little too far?" She whined, falling behind. "I'm carrying raw meat through the woods. You've got me, you're both super funny."

The two boys exchanged looks and then fell into a fit of laughter.

"She still doesn't believe us!" Steve shook his head. "We're tossing bloody meat in the woods and you still think this is a joke. This is as real as it gets, Dyl."

"Whatever, all that was in that damn cellar was a bit of fu— fricking goop," she huffed, making a mental note to never hang out with either of these boys again. "And if there's a monster lurking around, why do you get a fancy bat and Dustin and I are defenceless?"

"Because I only have one bat and I'm quite obviously the most athletic," he raised a brow at her ragged breaths and carried the same expression over to Dustin. "If you guys had the bat, we'd be dead."

"Idiot." She said under her breath.

"I heard that and it's hurtful," Steve threw a piece of meat at her and she squealed as she dodged it. "If you wanna call anyone an idiot,
its this guy."

He pointed to Dustin. "He's the one who kept a giant slug he knew was probably dangerous to impress a girl he just met."

"You thought some girl would like a giant slug?" Dylan said amused. "Why would you think she'd like a slug?"

"Because its an inter-dimensional slug and it's awesome?"

"Even if she liked the slug, which she didn't," Steve placed extra emphasis on the latter part. "I just think you're trying way too hard."
