CHAPTER THREE
" GET BACK IN THE CAR! "

HE WAS SILENT AS THEY PULLED AWAY FROM TINA'S HOUSE. Dylan sat in the passenger waiting for him to speak first but she was growing impatient. What had happened between them was a private, one-off, mistake and Steve had promised to keep it to himself.

When the girls were friends, Carol always used to call Dylan 'Secret Slut' because she always kept her sexual endeavours hidden. That's just the way she liked it. Close to the chest. Hidden. That way nobody could use it against her. After Carol branded Dylan with the stupid nickname, Dylan even kept her flings hidden from her.

All this happened so long ago and if Dylan wasn't so petty she might've just let it go. But old habits died hard and she was dramatic, and she was pissed at Steve for betraying her trust. Steve couldn't told almost anyone else but he let the secret slip to the one person she'd rather not know the most. Loose-lipped Tommy H.

"Sooo," she drawled out. "Are you going to apologize?"

"For what, Dyl? It was so long ago," he said harshly. "Let it go."

"It was a year ago, Steve. Not a millennium."

"It feels like it."

She let out a heavy breath. "What did you do? Pull out the driveway and then give 'ol Tommy a call the moment you got home? Because I clearly remembering you two breaking up the next day."

"Look, I thought Nancy had screwed around on me with Jonathan alright?" Steve banged his fist on the steering wheel. "Tommy was giving me shit about it and I kinda bragged I had sex with you to fuel my ego."

Dylan sunk back in her seat. "Was that so hard? Why do you have such a stick up your ass anyway?"

It fell quiet. The only sound was Caribbean Queen playing softly through the stereo and Steve's ragged breaths, he sounded like he had just run a marathon, when in reality he had done nothing but sit in the driver's seat of his car.

"Nancy."

"Nancy drove a stick up your ass?"

"No, jesus," he cursed, "Nancy—she's done with me."

Dylan's brows knitted together. The young couple had seemed fine just two nights before at her family dinner. "You mean she broke up with you?"

"No, not exactly," he said, sighing. "She might as well have. I know it's over."

"Honestly... I'm surprised it lasted this long."
