For a moment, things were normal. She was an awake, Age of Consent blasting in her ear, surrounded by her friends, Jonathan knelt at her side. For an even shorter moment things had made sense, she'd remembered things...but it didn't last.
She was consumed by complete darkness once again, the song that had been blasting through the headphones, now was only a dull, muffled lull.
"Dylilahhh!"
Dylan heard her name from the void but she didn't recognize the voice.
"Hello?" She replied. "I can't see anything."
"Time has finally caught up to you," the voice continued, "You should've stayed in California."
"And what does that mean? Time has caught up to me?"
"Most people have something eating them alive, one major moment in time they regret, when they did something bad..." The voice said. "But you have so many bad, terrible moments eating you alive, don't you? You've been terribly selfish, Dylilah Holland."
Despite the fear coursing through her veins, Dylan couldn't let a snide comment go unused. "If you know everything about me, like you think you do, then you should know I go by Dylan."
"Dylan, then." It said. "Does that make a difference?"
Dylan's head began to pound and the darkness was lit up with flashing memories, but unlike earlier when the memories ignited a feeling of hope, all the memories in front of her now made her feel shame.
Cheating, lying, bullying... all terrible things Dylan had done but already repented for played out in front of her. When she saw Billy laying on the ground, covered in black goo, the life slowly leaving him, that's when she finally closed her eyes.
"Dylan, baby," he said, "I really did care about you."
She remembered the night vividly. She didn't need to open her eyes to see it.
"But did you care about me?" Dylan peeked through her lashes to see Billy shaking his head. "No. You used me. I wasn't the best person, I know that, but you used me and let me die."
"I had nothing to do with that!" Dylan yelled back at him.
Sensing the memory wasn't strong enough to really hurt her, Billy disappeared. He was replaced by Barb, shivering, looking terrified in an emptied pool. Blood dripped from her frame profusely.
"Dylan?" She said. Her sister's voice was soft and shaky. "Did you finally come back to save me?"
Dylan stepped forward, reaching for her, hoping to provide some comfort, even though in the back of her consciousness she knew everything playing out in front of her wasn't real.
