"How could you not know I'm petrified of heights!?"

—earlier—

I wake up to the feeling of my sheets being ripped off of me and my girlfriend yelling, "Wake up!"

"What is it?" I grumble, feeling around with my eyes still closed for the covers only to not find them and give up. I attempt to roll over but she sees my intent and all but leaps onto me, straddling my hips and leaning down to place a chaste kiss on my nose.

"It's the anniversary of the day we met and I have something planned!" She announces with a broad, childlike grin. I think it's contagious because soon I'm smiling too.

"That's better." She comments, gently tracing the bottom of my smile with her thumb.

"What did you plan?" I question and she rolls her eyes before bringing them back up to meet mine.

"It's a surprise. Get out of bed, lazy bum." She says after kissing my nose again and getting out of bed, heading towards the wardrobes.

I give myself a moment before sitting up and moving over to stand behind her, lazily wrapping my arms around her, prompting a low hum to emit from her. Slowly beginning to sway us from side to side, I move her hair over her right shoulder and lean in to her now uncovered ear as I hummed too.

"What have you got planned, baby?" I try again and she smiles before turning in my arms, looking up at me with her tongue between her teeth.

"Nice try." She winked and patted my cheek gently before slipping from my grasp, clothes in hand, and going to the bathroom to change and get ready with an evil-sounding laugh.

"Come on! We're going to be late!" She exclaims, running through the living room where I'm sitting, ready to go, in order to retrieve something from the kitchen. I chuckle at her antics and meet her at the front door, slipping my shoes on just before she bursts into the hall.

"Ready?" I ask her, and she nods before opening the door for me.

"Why, thank you," I say with a sarcastically-British accent and she grins before locking the door as I head to the car.

"So, it's something we can be late to and might be cold." I point out when she joins me in the white Jeep we share, leaving our other car in the garage. I know it might be cold because of the outfit she told me to wear: a simple white shirt with a hoodie on top (she suggested my dark green one but of course I switched to her merch hoodie before she had chance to protest, gotta support my baby's career) and my skinny joggers. She's wearing a similar outfit.

"Yep." She nods simply, pulling out of the drive and setting off.

"You're really not going to tell me what it is, are you?" I giggle, and she smiles.

"Nope."

"Camila!?" I call out when I stumble over something, which I CANT SEE BECAUSE SHE MADE ME WEAR THIS STUPID BLINDFOLD *sigh*.

"It's okay," she laughs, grabbing one of my flailing arms, "I'm right here."

"Nincompoop," I mutter and succeed in making her laugh some more.

"Okay, we're there." She announces and let's go of my arm, leaving me standing confused until she pulls the fabric from my eyes.

"Is that a-" I pause, eyes adjusting to the daylight slightly as I take in the scene before me.

"A hot air balloon that we're going to ride together? Yep, I knew you'd love it." She smiles and grabs my hand, pulling me towards the death machine.

I put on a what-must-be-obviously-fake smile as I let her lead me; I'm not going to ruin her anniversary plans because of some stupid fear of heights.

It isn't until we're up in the air that she seems to notice my quietness and the way my wide eyes are glued to the floor. 'Don't look down', says everyone but it's much easier said than done.

"Are you okay?" She asks, reaching over to hold my hand.

"Y-Yeah." I croak out in a voice at least an octave higher than usual. Is the ground spinning or are we?

"No, you're not." She realises, taking my chin and gently leading my eyes to meet hers, "What's wrong?"

"Oh, it's nothing." I let out a breath and fake-smile again, "Just a... small... fear of heights."

"Oh my god, that's why you're so pale! Darling, you should've told me!" She exclaims and I look back down at the floor, forever getting further away from us.

"How could you not know I'm petrified of heights!?" I ask with shaky breaths, knees threatening to buckle beneath me as I grip onto the edges of the basket for fear of falling, the world seeming to warp around me.

"You look like you're about to pass out." She points out and I nod slowly.

"Yeah, I might. I've done it before."

"Shit." She hisses, turning to the driver or pilot or whatever they're called, "Can we go back down?"

I guess he nods because then she's back at my side, rubbing up and down my back as she tells me it's going to be okay and that she's sorry over and over.

Damn, you might think I'm in labour or something.

"It's alright." I tell her once we land again, the feeling of stable ground never being so welcome, "You know now." I joke and we manage to smile.

"I feel really bad though. What a way to celebrate an anniversary, eh?" She laughs but I can tell it's forced and that she's telling the truth.

"Baby," I say, bringing her into my arms and laying my head on hers, breathing in her scent, "It's okay, I promise. We can go do something else."

"Yeah?" She asks and I feel her being playing with my hoodie strings.

"Yeah." I nod, pulling her a little tighter to me before letting go. I reach for her hand, interlocking our fingers, and let her swing them as we thank the air balloon people and head back to the car.

"Hey, don't let it get you down," I say when we get in because she's been really quiet.

"Okay." She mumbles so with a reassuring sigh, I reach over and take her chin between my thumb and forefinger like she had earlier, and connect our lips. The kiss is simple but it isn't long until she's smiling into it.

"I love you," I say in a voice meant to reassure her, and it makes her giggle.

"I love you too." She whispers before going in for another kiss and cupping my cheeks with her warm hands.
